“ | Burn USEA to ashes with your so-called revolution...And the one left standing on the smoldering ruins of General and Neucom...will be I. | „ |
~ Gilbert Park. |
Gilbert Park is a major antagonist of the video game Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere, notably serving as the secondary antagonist of the game's "UPEO" story route. He is the commander of the Universal Peace Enforcement Organization's (UPEO) armed wing, Special Armed Response Force. Despite being tasked with keeping peace and preventing the megacorporations from engaging in war, he actually plots with Abyssal Dision to start a new conflict which would help him gain more influence over the world.
He was voiced by Mugihito.
Biography[]
Past[]
Gilbert Park was born on May 6, 1992. At some point, he was a member of General Resource, but after the shutdown of the Darkness of Enigma project, he was scapegoated by the company and transferred to UPEO, and eventually became the commander of the organization's Special Armed Response Force (SARF). Later, he would come into contact with Abyssal Dision, leader of Ouroboros, who convinced Park to assist him in his plans for revolution, despite the two having different goals in mind.
Electrosphere[]
When Neucom forces attacked General Resource, Park sent a number of SARF pilots, including Nemo, Erich Jaeger, Fiona Fitzgerald and the newcomer Rena Hirose, to conduct operations against the aggressors. Eventually, a peace treaty was signed between the two corporations thanks to the efforts of the UPEO delegate Gabriel Clarkson, only to be broken soon after by General Resource. As a result, Park authorized military action against General Resource as well. Later, assuming Clarkson survived an attempt on his life by GR, he claimed that Clarkson was a spy for Neucom and ordered him to be killed. Depending on Nemo's actions, Clarkson may or may not have escaped death, but Gilbert would become the leader of UPEO either way. He later conducted a false flag attack by having UPEO pilots destroy a number of General Resource facilities while piloting Neucom aircraft, causing a full-out war to break out. The treacherous commander would then continue to exhaust both companies' military power through direct and indirect actions, and after Ouroboros revealed itself, disband SARF and order its personnel to join the group, coming closer to his goal of controlling all of Usea.
Fate[]
Park dies in two of the five story routes: in the "Ouroboros" route taken after the "General Resource" one, he is assasinated by Nemo and Dision, with the latter having no further use for him, while in the "UPEO" route, he is instead killed by Nemo and Erich, who saw through his manipulations and by that time had already dealt with Dision. His fate in the other three routes is undisclosed. Either way, he failed to achieve his long-term goals of dominating the continent.
Personality[]
Gilbert Park is a clever, calculative yet heartless and utterly selfish individual. He desires to see himself on top of the world and doesn't care who he has to ally himself with or what he has to do for this purpose. His allies' ideals, be it UPEO's peace-keeping or Ouroboros' liberation of humanity from their bodies, mean nothing to him, but he's willing to play along as long at it's beneficial.
Trivia[]
- Park's true nature is foreshadowed in the game's intro, where he is seen grinning as he plays chess, subtly depicting him as a "chessmaster".
- Since the majority of the events shown in Electrosphere took place in a simulation, it's unknown what actually happens to Commander Park and if he achieves his goals.
- Although Park is technically the final boss of the "UPEO" route, he is actually much less of a challenge than Dision, who is fought before him and has much more health and firepower, and can be killed with one or two missiles even without entering the tunnel his helicopter is inside of.
