Giorgio Mainardi is the secondary antagonist of the giallo film The Killer Must Kill Again a.k.a. The Dark is Death's Friend. Mainardi is the widower of Nora Mainardi, who he ordered a serial killer he identified, "D.A.", to murder so Mainardi would retain Nora's inheritance.
He's portrayed by Uruguayan actor George Hilton, who also portrayed George Corro in The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh and Peter Lynch in The Case of the Scorpion's Tail.
Biography[]
Mainardi married Nora, an heiress, for financial comfort. They always fought, Nora over Mainardi having numerous affairs and using her money for failed business ventures, Mainardi for Nora trying to take control of her money to stop Mainardi's reckless expenses. Mainardi witnessed a serial killer wanted across Italy sink a car into a river, with the remains of the latest woman he murdered. Mainardi stole the killer's lighter, which had his initials, and blackmailed him into killing Nora so Mainardi wouldn't turn him into the police. Mainardi pretended to be the concerned husband after the killer strangled Nora to death and made off with her remains. However, the police inspector knew full well Mainardi was guilty and planned to catch him in the act once the killer was found. The killer, in the meantime, had to retrieve his car and Nora's remains frim a couple who heisted it for a trip to the beach, Luca and Laura. After the killer found them, he knocked out Luca, raped Laura, a stabbed a blond woman Luca helped from the side of the road and had a dalliance with while the killer was raping Laura. Laura grabbed the knife, broke free from her ties, and stabbed the killer to save herself. The inspector then decided to trap Mainardi by leaving the car and Nora's remains in front of his house. Mainardi took the bait, and the police stooped him from sinking the car in the same place the other woman and her car were located at. Mainardi conceded to arrest once caught.
