Giygas's Race are ones of the overarching antagonists of the Mother/EarthBound video game franchise.
They are an alien species that descended to Earth and are the original wielders of PSI power. Despite their influence of the story, they are never seen apart from Giygas himself.
Biography[]
In the original Mother game, the enigmatic abduction of George and Maria by Giygas's race sets the stage for a tale shrouded in mystery and tragedy. George, driven by an insatiable curiosity, delves into the study of the aliens and their psychic abilities during his captivity. It is during this time that Maria, displaying boundless compassion, nurtures and loves the infant Giygas as her own child.
Decades later, George orchestrates a daring escape back to Earth, armed with stolen data and knowledge of the aliens' technology. He leaves behind a trail of clues and information, anticipating a future confrontation with Giygas's race. This legacy is passed down to his great-grandson, Ninten, who inherits PSI powers and embarks on a quest to thwart the impending invasion.
Giygas's race, tasking him with eradicating humanity to prevent the betrayal of their secrets, force him to sever ties with Maria, a bond that proves difficult for him to break. Despite this, Ninten and his companions ultimately harness the power of Maria's lullaby to weaken Giygas and force his retreat, promising to return.
In Mother 2 (EarthBound), the fate of Giygas's race remains a mystery, as they are never mentioned again after the events of the original game. Speculation abounds regarding their fate and the transformation of Giygas into the "Ultimate Evil." Some theories suggest that Giygas may have turned on his own people, either out of madness or as retribution for their perceived failure. Alternatively, it is possible that Giygas's race met their demise at his hands, rendering them unable to mount another attack on Earth.
The lack of further appearances by Giygas's race in subsequent installments of the series leaves their ultimate fate open to interpretation, adding to the enigmatic nature of the Mother universe.
