Glenda Stanford is the main antagonist in the 1981 giallo film Murder Obsession. She's the demented mother of her son Michael, who killed her husband and his father in self-defense by stabbing him to death. She later in her psychosis desires her own rampage to keep Michael all to herself.
She was portrayed by Anita Strindberg, who also portrays Irina Rouvigny in Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key.
Biography[]
Glenda's husband and Michael's father was prone to his abuse of the family, and in the height of his final breakdown, Michael stabbed his father to death to save him and Glenda. Glenda never got over grieving as a widow and underwent a delusion that her late husband's spirit passed into Michael and she could keep him close. When Michael grew up and started dating other women, Glenda became highly envious and decided to dispose of the people around him so Glenda and Michael could be together.
Michael returns to his home for the weekend accompanied by his fellow cast and crew to visit Glenda while they all start preparing for a movie. In her maniacal hysteria, Glenda decided to put her plans into action. In between her more obvious dementia and reminiscent disorientation, she donned her disguise and killed the two women in Michael's life, Sheryl and girlfriend Deborah. To eliminate witnesses and isolate, she also killed the remainder of the group, Hans and Beryl. She eventually came forward and revealed herself as the killer, holding Michael hostage and performing a black magic ceremony to "resurrect" her late husband. She stabbed Michael to death as a result.
