~ Gloria Trillo having an argument with Tony Soprano. |
Gloria Trillo is a major antagonist in the third season of the HBO Television Series The Sopranos.
She is an Italian-American woman who goes to Dr. Jennifer Melfi regularly for therapy and after a mix-up, meets crime boss Tony Soprano, who she starts a sexual relationship with. Not only is she the most significant affair Tony has in the series, she is also the most villainous and mentally unstable.
She was portrayed by Annabella Sciorra.
Biography[]
Before one of her therapy sessions, Gloria Trillo sits in the waiting room for one of Dr. Jennifer Melfi's sessions. While waiting, a man, Tony Soprano, sits near here only for it to be revealed by Dr. Melfi that she mixed up their schedules. While this looks to be just a slight mix-up, this would start a long affair between Tony and Gloria after Tony tracked her down as a saleswoman at Globe Motors, a Mercedes dealership. After taking a test drive with her, Gloria realizes her lustful desires for Tony, which starts their relationship.
Gloria became a breath of fresh air for Tony, with him being able to let loose with a comare, that unlike his former mistresses, was much more exotic and dedicated to their relationship, thinking of Tony more as a boyfriend then just someone she can regularly have sex with. Gloria later takes a vacation to Morocco and reappears in the episode "Pine Barrens". When she returns and plans to give him a present for Christmas, she receives a phone call on Tony's boat from his former mistress, Irina. Frustrated with Tony's lies, she throws his present into the water and leaves. This starts off her signs of being a narcissistic and toxic person, which happens when she immediately clings back to Tony after their argument and after Tony leaves her when she makes dinner for him, she continues to berate him.
More symptoms of Gloria's mental illness and manipulative behavior reveal themselves when it is shown that all of her previous relationships all ended in her boyfriend leaving her after discovering her toxic side. This is soon brought up a third time when Gloria clings back to Tony after previously throwing his dinner at him in a blind rage. Gloria soon begins to use her manipulative nature and ulterior motives when she gives Carmela Soprano a ride from her dealership after finding out she was Tony's wife. Gloria decides to not tell Carmela about the affair and it is instead Tony who finds out about the interaction between the two and soon breaks off the relationship, devastating Gloria. Tony soon arrives at her apartment, confirming their breakup. Gloria, in return, threatens to tell Carmela and her daughter Meadow of the affair, before Tony strangles her before leaving.
In order to make sure that Gloria stays far away from his family, Tony has Patsy Parisi, a soldier in the DiMeo Crime Family take a drive with Gloria while at her dealership. On Tony's orders, Patsy points a gun towards Gloria's chest and, in gruesome detail, describes what will happen if she goes near Tony ever again. Gloria is left shocked as Patsy leaves, which causes her to never bother Tony again. However, due to feeling alone and most likely also due to her mental illness, Gloria hangs herself, which puts some guilt onto his person.
