| ~ Bowser Jr. summoning Gobblegut |
Gobblegut is a major antagonist in the 2010 platform video game Super Mario Galaxy 2. He is a large serpent-like dragon summoned by Bowser Jr. to eat Mario/Luigi.
Biography[]
Gobblegut first appears in the level "Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla Galaxy" during the "Gobblegut's Aching Belly" mission, where Bowser Jr. sends him to gobble Mario/Luigi up. During the battle, Mario/Luigi must avoid getting eaten by Gobblegut. If Mario/Luigi successfully dodges Gobblegut as he dives into the ground, Gobblegut will then get angry and tunnel into the planet, which gives Mario/Luigi a chance to fight back by attacking his Bellyache Bulges, six inflamed bulbs on Gobblegut's body which are his weak spots. After three of the Bulges are destroyed, Gobblegut will grimace in pain, and then get angrier causing his attacks to be quicker.
After all six bulges are destroyed, Gobblegut will slow to a stop, burp, and then explode.
In the mission "Fiery Flotilla Speed Run", which is only available when a Speedy Comet is in orbit of Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla, Mario/Luigi must defeat Gobblegut within two minutes.
Later on, in a secret area in the Battle Belt Galaxy during the level "Snacktime for Gobblegut", Gobblegut returns in a form called Fiery Gobblegut. Similarly to the Fiery Dino Piranha from the first Super Mario Galaxy, Fiery Gobblegut is embedded with lava that burns Mario/Luigi if they touch him with the exception of his Bellyache Bulges. When he bites into the planet, Fiery Gobblegut leaves behind a pool of lava where he dives. After three bulges are destroyed, Fiery Gobblegut not only moves faster, but he also gets angrier and shoots large fireballs at Mario/Luigi that leave more lava pools where they land.
