Godbrand is a major antagonist in Season 2 of the Netflix animated series Castlevania, being one of Dracula's generals. He is an original character for the show and has nothing to do with the games.
He was voiced by Shinpachi Tsuji (who also played Faust, Zoda, and Archbishop Thordan VII) in Japanese and Peter Stormare (who also played Gaear Grimsrud in Fargo, Prometheus Black from Transformers: The Animated Series, John Abruzzi in Prison Break, and Dracula in Batman vs Dracula) in English.

~ Dracula mocking Godbrand for his arrogance. |
Godbrand is a big-mouthed viking who enjoys the pleasure of killing and torturing humans for his own satisfaction he also enjoys having sex and making boats out of things like humans for example. Godbrand views himself as a strong powerful warrior that others should respect and listen to but in reality, he is just an arrogant, boatsful vampire that thinks highly of himself and tries to make himself look important.
His weak nature is shown when he continues to criticize Dracula in his presence and talking to Carmilla including his interaction with Hector and Isaac. All four of these characters criticizes Godbrand for who he is and how he views himself.
Despite these traits, he is intelligent and understand the war situation very well. He respects his fellow vampire generals' opinions on Dracula's war on humanity and understandably questions Dracula's intentions with the war and how messy it is. He immediately figures out Dracula's plans and notice it as a suicide like Alucard did. He starts to realize that Dracula wants to die and is willing to bring everyone down with him including the vampires. Godbrand also likes and prefers organized warfare and genuinely feels that the attacks should be more organized and careful like how he explained to Hector. Though He dislikes both Hector and Isaac for being human he did apologies to them about his sudden outburst in the beginning of Season 2. He also figures out the immediate consequences that the war against humanity can have on his kind like for example: low livestock and starvation.
Despite these positive traits he holds, Godbrand remains brash and arrogant through the end by revealing some of his plans to Isaac and tried to get him to switch sides. This leads Isaac to kill him, mainly because Godbrand underestimated him and does not know that Isaac is extremely loyal to Dracula.
Appearance[]
Godbrand is a muscular vampire with red hair and beard and has pointy ears (a trait that most vampires hold). Although he wears some type of armor with gold trims, his upper chest and one of his shoulders are partially exposed.
Powers And Abilities[]
Godbrand's weapon of choice is that of an axe and a sword. Since Godbrand is a vampire, he has superhuman strength, speed, and agility, and possibly holds other supernatural abilities.
Biography[]
In the beginning of Season 2, Godbrand is part of Dracula's war council and one of the selected Vampire Generals. When Dracula makes both Hector and Isaac his generals and make plans for attacks, this choice does not sit well with Godbrand and the rest of the war council. Godbrand starts ranting and criticizing Dracula for letting two humans to make plans for the war effort instead of him and the rest of vampire generals. He tries to get both Hector and Isaac from leaving the court but both of them start criticizing Godbrand's nasty behavior with Hector telling Godbrand "that he has not meet anything he didn't immediately kill, fuck, or make a boat out of". Godbrand calls them bigots for not understanding that he is a viking.
Later on, Godbrand goes to talk to Hector and apologies for his outburst in the war council. He ask Hector "if the war is going well" Hector seems to think the war is going fine but this answer does not satisfy Godbrand. He tells Hector that He feels that the war is too chaotic and undirected as like their is no real plan beyond the wild destruction. He also says "there should be order even in a removal of a species from a place. Wars have order. Plans and maps and lines." He lastly says "it should be done more carefully" after that he leaves Hector alone. Godbrand would later give away Dracula's castle location to Carmilla. According to Carmilla, Godbrand only did this so he can have sex with her.
After Carmilla sudden arrival, Godbrand goes to Isaac's room to deliver a dead Night Creature. He starts to question Isaac on why he is whipping himself, Isaac responds "Discipline. Peace. Choosing my own actions, and inuring myself to a world of horrors.". Godbrand stays back looking a bit disturb from Isaac responds and how calm he looks at him. Godbrand calls the demon that he brought to Isaac "Useless fucking thing" and leaves so Isaac can do his business.
Godbrand visit Dracula in his study room and talks about the supply of human blood. Godbrand ask Dracula if all humans are killed where are they going to gain more supply of human blood. Dracula tells him not to worry because their animals in the lower levels of the castle, blood in cold canisters and allows him to go on raids to kill humans for blood but Godbrand continue to question him. Dracula had enough with Godbrand complaints and threatens his life if he does not accept his decision and stop questioning him, he angrily tells Godbrand to leave his room. This conversation convinces Godbrand of his worries and tells Carmilla that the whole war is actually Dracula's suicide and is willing to bring everyone down with him, believing that they all are going to die. Carmilla then kicks Godbrand down the stairs for ignoring her and tells him on why she killed her old master and why she hates "stupid, old men".
Godbrand later gets drunk and starts daydreaming on his "legendary life" then he asks for beer and blood from the vampiric guards. When he sees them holding a pig, he becomes disappointed and realizes that Carmilla is right. Later on, Godbrand gathers the other vampiric generals and says, "We need a proper fucking drink" and ready themselves to raid a nearby village for blood. He and the other generals attacked the human village leaving no survivors.
After his raid, Godbrand returns to Isaac and ask how Dracula recruited him into his service. Isaac claims that he makes "purity from human corruption" and that "Human corruption is a stain on the world." Godbrand explains to Isaac that Carmilla was right about Dracula and claims that Dracula barely listens to him and Hector and does not act on their recommendations. He still feels that they are still thrashing around the country randomly. Isaac responds and states that "there is an intent. We don't need strict battle plans." Godbrand states that they did not need to hit Gresit right away and should've been aware that Alucard was sleeping underneath the town. Godbrand worries that since Alucard is Dracula's son and knows everything about him and will use his knowledge to oppose him.
Godbrand brings up that they should handle the war without Dracula and do it properly. Isaac asks, "you would betray Dracula?" and Godbrand states "it's not betrayal unless the old man becomes difficult about it". Godbrand leaves the room thinking he got Isaac to switch sides but not realizing how loyal Isaac is to Dracula, leading Isaac to attack him. Godbrand tries to fight back but it was too late when Isaac plunges his knife into his chest, killing him.
Isaac is later seen on a balcony, calmly dumping one last fragment of Godbrand's existence. Carmilla later got the vampire generals to find him, but they could not, so they decided to continue their plans without him.
