~ The Godfather ranting about black people. |
The Godfather is the main antagonist of Ralph Bakshi's 1975 controversial adult animated film Coonskin. He is Brother Rabbit's archenemy, and the leader of the Mafia who resides in a subway with his gang, his wife, and his cross-dressing sons.
When his clown minion Mario notifies him that Brother Rabbit is standing in the way of maintaining control over the city, he orders to have Brother Rabbit killed by signing Brother Bear up for a boxing match.
He was voiced by the late Al Lewis.
Appearance[]
The Godfather is a morbidly obese bald man with grayish skin with a body covered in hair. He also has a large bloated head with a face covered in moles, has red eyes, a small black mustache, and a big mouth with many missing teeth.
He is usually seen wearing a black tuxedo with a red vest underneath.
Personality[]
He is a racist crime lord who views black people as "stupid" and "unloyal to their own kind". This is best evidenced by the fact that one of his servants, a headless black man, is constantly insulted by him and treated like property, even being used as a chair during the deal he makes with Preacher Fox.
The Godfather is also shown to be highly perverted and treats women as sex slaves. He appears to have a harem of women, all of whom are completely naked, in his lair who do his bidding for him. In one scene, he also has a pair of them massage his back by jumping on him.
The Godfather is also quite temperamental, with even the slightest bit of provocation to be enough to have those that mess with him to be hog-tied by a swarm of red fly-like creatures that resemble naked women.
Biography[]
Following Brother Rabbit's murder of Simple Savior, he takes control over his racket, and sees the opportunity to take over all of Harlem's organized crime, and has a plan to have all money surrounding organized crime to strictly stay in the city of Harlem, though he is currently unable to due to the Godfather being in control of Harlem, and because a bagman of his gang, Mannigan is taking down black people. He then makes a promise to Savior's former partners that he will take both of them down, or he will be killed by them.
The Godfather is first seen having his shoes shined when Mario notifies him about the death of Mannigan, telling him that his family's name is being tarnished due to his influence over the city being deterred by Brother Rabbit. The Godfather then swears that he will zero in on Rabbit, and murder him. When one of his servants, a headless black man, bumps into him as he's putting on his tuxedo, this triggers the Godfather into ranting about black people, deeming them as "stupid" and "unloyal".
Mario then asks about the whereabouts of his sons, who are supposed to be protecting him. Even after the Godfather promises that they are protecting him, Mario goes out to find them. Mario does eventually find them all, implied to be having incestuous oral sex inside of a trashcan. When one of the Godfather's sons, Sonny, gets killed by Brother Rabbit, his sons bring his ashes back to the subway, where his wife then mourns over the loss. The Godfather then waltzes with his wife, who he then kills, and then crushes when she turns into a butterfly.
Later, as part of his plan to lure Rabbit in and kill him, the Godfather had Mario talk with Bear about becoming a boxer for the Mafia. Bear eventually agreed and became a heavyweight boxing champion. After Rabbit got a fighter, who happened to be a skinny, amateur black man, the Godfather and his men went to the boxing match, unaware that Rabbit set up a dummy of himself made of tar. When the match started, they all took turns stabbing at the tar rabbit, but got stuck together. The actual Rabbit lit a bomb and escaped with Bear, Fox, and the opponent boxer as the bomb went off, killing the Godfather and his associates.

Trivia[]
- The character was meant to be a grotesque charicature of Don Corleone, as the movie was made as a deconstructive parody of the movie The Godfather, a movie which Bakshi had come to despise due to his distaste towards the Mafia.
- Additionally, the character was created as a villainous depiction of the glorification of organized crime, something that Bakshi accuses the Godfather movies of doing.
