“ | Mighty dragon, thou'rt a trueborn heir. Lend me thy strength, o kindred. Deliver me unto greater heights. Well... a lowly Tarnished playing as a lord. I command thee, kneel! I am the lord of all that is golden! | „ |
~ Godrick upon meeting the Tarnished. |
Godrick the Grafted, formerly known as Godrick the Golden, is a major antagonist of the video game Elden Ring. He is a member of the Golden Lineage, demigods that descended from Queen Marika the Eternal and the first Elden Lord Godfrey. Godrick acts as the ruler of Stormveil Castle. Believing himself to be a true successor of Godfrey, he intends on proving his worth by killing those that dare choose to come across him and turn their blades against him.
He was voiced by Ramon Tikaram, who also played Aatrox in League of Legends and Jack Rackham in Tad the Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas.
Personality[]
Godrick is a cruel and ruthless tyrant that considers himself to be the true successor of Godfrey, acknowledging himself as the lord of all that is golden. Despite being a member of Godfrey's lineage, he is considered to be a nobody amongst the demigods and is even said to be a coward by Kenneth Haight. Even prior to the Shattering, he was viewed as the weakest of Marika's children, not just in terms of power and influence but also in terms of leadership and basic strategic thinking. Even so, he desires to make a name for himself and acquire power, believing he has worth to his ancestors.
This has led to him becoming a power-hungry individual that hunts and slaughters various humans and creatures, as well as keeping their bodies for collection and grafting their parts onto his body. This act has led to him being labeled as "the Grafted" instead of "the Golden", due to the depravity of his intentions and crimes alone. Because of this, he is detested by almost everyone who has crossed paths with him, so much that even his gatekeeper was happy to stomp on his decapitated head due to Godrick punishing him by cutting his hand for theft and corpse looting.
Manga[]
Godrick's personality is different in the manga adaption Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree. In this version, he is less cruel and appears to be somewhat cheerful, confident, and goofy. During challenges he strives to win and would go to great lengths just to achieve it, such as through cheating, all this in order to pathetically prove himself to his forefathers. This is shown as when the during a grafting challenge, he copied the Tarnished's grafting masterpiece and tried to accuse him of using his design. As he refused to accept the fact that he lost and immediately challenges the Tarnished and Nepehele to a second round right before the challenge could officially end, showing how much of a bad sport/sore loser he is.
Godrick is shown to be somewhat childish, wimpy, and despairing as after he lost a second time, he began to cry like a child after a few seconds over his defeat and admits the reason on why he wants to achieve a victory so badly before declaring his resignation as a demigod. However, after this unexpectedly earned him more confidence and support from his own soldiers along from Nephele Loux, Godrick became a man of honor as he accepted his loss before giving the Tarnished his great rune.
Quotes[]
“ | Lowly Tarnished... Thou'rt unfit even to graft... | „ |
~ Godrick's game over quote. |
“ | Ahh, truest of dragons. Lend me thy strength... Nnngh! Forefathers, one and all... Bear witness! | „ |
~ Godrick's second phase. |
“ | ...I am Lord of all that is Golden... And one day, we'll return together... To our home, bathed in rays of gold... | „ |
~ Godrick's last words. |
Trivia[]
- It is implied that Godrick is not actually a direct child of Godfrey and Marika, but instead a descendant as he is described by many to have a "distant relation" with "diluted blood." He also refers Godfrey and his lineage as his forefathers. Because he shares the title "Golden" with Marika's son, Godwyn, it is possible he descends directly from his bloodline.
- The Remembrance of the Grafted can be consumed for 20,000 Runes or handed to Enia to obtain the Axe of Godrick or the Grafted Dragon armament.
