Gods (神 Kami) are the overarching antagonists of the Touhou Project franchise. They are supernatural deities originated from various religions or folklores, many of them are worshipped by Shinto shrines.
In contrast with youkais who gain power from people's fear, the gods gain power from people's faith. When the gods are worshiped, they would grant blessings (ご利益 gorieki) to the worshippers, while when they are angry they will invoke disasters and curses (祟 tatari). Without the enough faith, the gods would lose their power, which equals death.
While not all gods are necessarily evil, some of them would use whatever means to gather faith, which instigates many conflicts in the series.
