~ Gohan Black |
Gohan Black is the main antagonist in the “The Strongest Warrior” chapter of Gohan's Saga in the anime video game DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO.
In the same manner as Goku Black, his true identity is a former Supreme Kai in training named Zamasu, who switched bodies with Gohan in order to enact the Zero Mortal Plan, a genocide mission to kill all mortal beings in the multiverse.
Gohan Black shares the same voice actors as Gohan, being voiced by Masako Nozawa in Japanese and Kyle Hebert in English.
Personality[]
Gohan Black shares all of the same traits as Goku Black, including his god complex and disdain of mortals. Furthermore, Gohan Black displays knowledge of the Elder Kai's ritual to unlock someone's potential and chastises Gohan for using it, labeling Gohan as a barbaric Saiyan trying to emulate the closest thing to godhood by “flaunting” power unlocked by a deity.
Biography[]
Origin[]
In a special Sparking! Episode that retells the evens of the Golden Frieza Saga, Gohan re-awakens his Ultimate form and defeats Golden Frieza without Goku and Vegeta having to save him. Gohan continued his training and eventually joined Team Universe 7 in the Tournament of Destroyers and fought Hit in the tournament. His fight caught the attention of all the gods in the multiverse, including Zamasu.
After watching Gohan's fight, Zamasu decided to use Gohan for his own goals. Zamasu started by killing his master, the Supreme Kai of Universe 10, Gowasu, then stole Gowasu’s Potara earrings to promote himself to Supreme Kai status. He then used the Super Dragon Balls to switch bodies with Gohan, then traveled to Earth and killed Videl, Pan, and Gohan. Now assuming the identity of Gohan, Black found a timeline where a God of Destruction didn't exist, that being Future Trunks' timeline. Gohan Black recruited the Zamasu in Trunks' timeline and used the Super Dragon Balls to make Zamasu immortal. Gohan Black made his move to Earth, and proclaimed he would exterminate the human race in the name of justice, and eradicated most life on Earth. Eventually, Future Trunks would resist Black, but couldn’t defeat him and traveled to the past for help.
Gohan's Saga: The Strongest Warrior Chapter[]
Gohan Black is pulled to the present by a rift in space time alongside Trunks via his Time Ring, where he encounters and fights Gohan for the first time. Black brushes off Trunks, then turns his attention to Gohan, and the two fight. During their fight, the rift then pulls Black back to Trunks' timeline. In the present, Beerus and Whis theorize that Gohan Black’s true identity is Zamasu, an apprentice Supreme Kai from Universe 10 due to the Time Ring, and travel there to investigate. Gohan has a sparring match with Zamasu, but don’t have concrete proof at the time to conclude that Zamasu is Black. Trunks, Gohan, Goku, and Vegeta travel to the future, where they encountered Gohan Black alongside Zamasu. Zamasu’s immortal body proves to be a significant hurdle, and Gohan, Goku, and Vegeta return to the present to regroup while Trunks makes a stand against the two gods.
The Zamasu in the present timeline attempts to make his move, but Beerus erases him and claims that a god killing another god affects all flows of time. However, when Gohan, Goku, and Vegeta travel back to the past, Gohan Black and Zamasu are still alive. Gohan fights Gohan Black again, who reveals he can utilize Gohan’s Ultimate form. Black mocks Gohan for “flaunting” his hidden power and reveals his origins to Gohan, declaring he has done everything to punish and set an example to Gohan.
As their fight continues, Gohan Black and Zamasu eventually use the Potara earrings and fuse into Fused Zamasu, but the fusion is defeated by the combined efforts of Future Trunks and Gohan, and sealed away by Gohan’s Evil Containment Wave.
Trivia[]
- The concept of Gohan Black was a widely popular fan idea among the Dragon Ball fanbase prior to Sparking! ZERO. Official Shueisha artist Fenyo_n has created two different pieces of fanart depicting a hypothetical Gohan Black years prior to the game's release. It is unknown if these arts were inspiration to add Gohan Black as an antagonist in the game.
- If base Gohan Black is modded into the game as a playable character, he shares the same moveset as Goku Black. If Ultimate Gohan Black is modded as a playable character, he shares the same moveset as Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black.
- Gohan Black has quotes whenever he uses a Skill, Blast, or Ultimate Blast. However, Gohan Black does not use any special moves during any of the battles in Gohan's Saga.
- Oddly enough, most of Gohan Black's quotes whenever he uses an attack are slightly reworded quotes from Goku Black.
