Golden Freddy appears to be a cross between Freddy and Fredbear with missing eyes. His hat and bow tie appear to be tinted dark blue, as opposed to Freddy's black ones and Fredbear's purple ones, though this may be the result of lighting. In the office, he has extremely small white pupils, but the close-up of his face doesn't show them. Golden Freddy is the Animatronic ghost version of a dead child, named Cassidy.

In the office, he has extremely small white pupils, but the close-up of his face doesn't show them. Golden Freddy is the Animatronic ghost version of a dead child, possibly named Cassidy. In the "Thank You!" image, Golden Freddy has animatronic eyes. This is a mistake made by Scott, as the head is reused from one of Freddy Fazbear's jumpscares in Five Nights at Freddy's.

  +
His paws are facing palms up. It is also possible that there is an endoskeleton in the suit. If one looks at the arms, a few wires and parts of the endoskeleton are visible, which share the same coloration as his accessories, though this may just be cords holding together the separate pieces of his suit. His jaw hangs open and his head is tilted to the right. He is also presented in a sitting, slouched position as if he were deceased.
As confirmed by numerous sources, Golden Freddy is heavily linked to Fredbear, yet can't be classified as the actual Fredbear as he has too many ghost-like abilities which mean he is a noncorporeal ghost that takes the form of a Fredbear-lookalike.

  +
In the second game, Golden Freddy now takes a form mimicking Withered Freddy's and Fredbear's appearance as a unique model of his own. He appears to be in a decrepit state, much like the other withered animatronics, with a missing left ear, and a good deal of damage with loose wires and exposed parts. Also, similar to the other withered animatronics, he now has upper teeth, wires are coming out of his empty sockets and shoulders, and small bits of the suit are faded and ripped. His arms and legs seem darker than the rest of his body. His head is noticeably thinner than Withered Freddy's. He seems to be more visibly clutching his microphone rather than having it lay on his palm. Unlike his form in the first game, he seems much shorter, his pupils are not visible, and he appears to have a black bow tie, with his lower jaw blocking it from view. If one looks closely, he has a black button on his chest, similar to Withered Freddy. His head also seems to be tilting to the left rather than to the right.
Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery is noticeably the first game in the series where Golden Freddy is actually golden, and not yellow.

  +
In Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery, his appearance is the same as in the first game, but he is now completely golden, including his teeth, and he is more shiny. He is also seen moving its limbs for the first time in its workshop animation, albeit less fluidly, in contrast to other animatronics, and there does not seem to be an endoskeleton within him, making the cause of its ability to move its limbs unknown.

In the novel trilogy and the Fazbear Frights series, Golden Freddy is described simply as being a molded golden bear with a light purplish blue hat and appears to be a cross between Freddy and Fredbear. Due to being a springlock suit, it can be presumed it had five fingers. In the Fazbear Frights, Golden Freddy has the body of a child inside him, yet the identity of the child is unknown.

Backstory
Cassidy was a little girl killed by William Afton while he was wearing the Spring Bonnie suit. Her body was put in Fredbear, by William or the Puppet. As explained in Fazbear Frights: Step Closer, similar to Susie and Chica, Cassidy's body and remnant separate one another, with her body remaining in the Fredbear suit, while her remnant took the form of a ghost representing a yellow version of Freddy Fazbear, becoming Golden Freddy.

Backstory
However, it is often theorised that the child bitten by Fredbear in Five Nights at Freddy's 4 became Golden Freddy.

In the year 1983 or 1985, the child named Cassidy was killed by William Afton while he was wearing the Spring Bonnie suit. Their body was put in Fredbear, by William or the Puppet. As implied in Fazbear Frights: Step Closer, similar to Susie and Chica, it's possible that Cassidy's body and remnant separate one another, with their body remaining in the Fredbear suit, while their remnant (soul?) took the form of a ghost representing a yellow version of Freddy Fazbear, becoming Golden Freddy.

Freddy Fazbear's Pizza was shut down later.
Due to the events of Five Nights at Freddy's 4 and the unseen Missing Children Incident, the event that lead to Cassidy's death, the original four animatronics, including Fredbear, were put in the Parts/Service Room, but kept for spare parts.

In 1987, Golden Freddy can be glimpsed on a number of posters drawn by children. The company tried to repair the original four animatronics, fitting them with facial recognition software, but they were deemed ugly, so were left for spare parts in the Parts/Service room. In the minigame SAVETHEM, Golden Freddy can be seen in various rooms, disappearing if Freddy comes near to him.

Golden Freddy becomes active on Night 6, and can teleport to the Office hallway in the form of a floating head, or within the Office itself to kill the next night guard, Jeremy Fitzgerald. Jeremy fends him off by putting on the Freddy Head the moment he sees Freddy inside the Office, fooling the ghost. As well as this, Jeremy could turn off the Flashlight while Golden Freddy was in the hall. After Fritz Smith's shift on Night 7, where the animatronic's AI levels are altered, the original four animatronics are repaired and taken to the Five Nights at Freddy's pizzeria. Golden Freddy takes the form of a yellow repaired Freddy Fazbear.

During Mike Schmidt's shift, Golden Freddy is not openly attacking him and only shows up as an easter egg on two occasions. Firstly when checking CAM 2B, the Freddy poster can rarely change into a Golden Freddy poster, accompanied by a giggle, at which point Golden Freddy appears in the Office. The only way Mike can save himself is by flicking the monitor up, which causes Golden Freddy to vanish. If the player is killed by Golden Freddy, the game crashes. Golden Freddy's jumpscare could be heard cutting off Phone Guy's Night 4 phone call, implying he was the one who killed him. The second easter egg happens whenever the player sets the animatronic AI's to 1/9/8/7 in the Custom Night mode. Instead of starting the night with the selected difficulty settings, Golden Freddy instantly jumpscares the player and forces the game to crash.

Similar to their Fazbear Frights' counterpart, Golden Freddy attaches himself to the William's soul to ensure that he can't die, allowing Cassidy to torment William as Springtrap. After the fire of Fazbear's Fright, William burns in a huge fire, but he can't die as Cassidy is keeping him alive to suffer.
Golden Freddy appears the minigames, one of which further hints that he was the mascot of the original restaurant, Fredbear's Family Diner, along with Spring Bonnie. The Golden Freddy child appears in Happiest Day. Here, the child possessing him is standing behind a table. They are given cake by the Puppet, and, after the Golden Freddy mask appears on the child's face, they vanish, leaving the mask behind.

  +
Although Golden Freddy doesn't directly appear, his phantom counterpart does. His original form appears the minigames, along with Spring Bonnie at Fredbear's Family Diner. The soul of Golden Freddy appears in Happiest Day. Here, the child possessing him is standing behind a table. With Charlotte Emily, Gabriel, Susie, Fritz, and Jeremy to the left of the table. After Charlotte places a cake on the table, all six children will then disappear, and their masks will fall to the ground. The six balloons will then fly upwards through the room barrier, mostly out of view. Finishing this ending will trigger a unique star to appear on the main menu, and this is saved to the game file as a unique variable signifying that the Good Ending has now been realized and the souls of William Afton's victims can finally pass on in peace.

The withered version of Golden Freddy appears as an antagonist in the game Five Nights at Freddy's: Ultimate Custom Night. Like in other games in the series, Golden Freddy may appear in the player's office. The player only has a short amount of time to put up their monitor or put on the Freddy head when catching a glimpse of him to make Golden Freddy disappear before Golden Freddy kills the player.

Golden Freddy is tied to an Easter egg in the game. If only Golden Freddy is active with his A.I. set to 1 and the player uses the Death Coin on him, Fredbear will appear and instantly kill the player, confirming that Golden Freddy and Fredbear are heavily linked, if not outright the same entity.

It is heavily implied the the soul within Golden Freddy was the one who set up Five Nights at Freddy's: Ultimate Custom Night as William's personal hell after the events of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator. They are referred to are "The One You Should Not Have Killed", and can occasionally be seen smiling maliciously at William. They also seemingly speak though Happy Frog, Nedd Bear, and Orville Elephant, leaving William vengeful messages.

It's revealed in both this game and other media that Cassidy was the one who set up Ultimate Custom Night as William's repeated nightmare after the events of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator. They are referred to are "The One You Should Not Have Killed", and can occasionally be seen smiling maliciously at William. They also seemingly speak though Happy Frog, Nedd Bear, and Orville Elephant, leaving William vengeful messages.

If the player completes all of the anime cutscenes, a final one will play after completing another challenge showing the classic version of Golden Freddy twitching on the ground as he fades into the darkness. This serves as another hint that the soul inside Golden Freddy (Cassidy?) still exists as a ghost and is indeed the one controlling the personal hell William is trapped in.

If the player sets Old Man Consequences to 1 and all over characters to 0, they'll be taken directly to OMC's pond, here he tells the player to "Leave the demon to his demons. Rest your own soul. There is nothing else.". It is heavily implied he is talking directly to Cassidy, begging them to stop their personal torture of William and fully go to the afterlife like the rest of William's victims.

At this, the other animatronics finally realizes their wrongdoings and that they have been attacking the wrong people. Golden Freddy speaks once again to all his friends, revealing himself as Michael. The other animatronics becomes much more docile and friendly around them, showing the intelligence behind the robots. The yellow bear slumps back to the corner as Carlton's father busts down a wall in the restaurant to rescue everyone.

Golden Freddy appears as the main animatronic in this story. When Devon sees Kelsey doing what he perceives as going out with his crush, decides to plan a revenge. He convinces Kelsey to go with him and Mick to explore an old Freddy's he found in the woods nearby. After exploring around, they find an old Golden Freddy springlock suit. Devon encourages Kelsey to put it on, which he does. Kelsey starts dancing, which triggers the springlocks, which end up skewering Kelsey, to the shock of Devon and Mick. Devon confesses that he had no idea the suit was dangerous, he just wanted to trap Kelsey for a prank. Devon makes Mick swear not to tell anyone, and the two leave Kelsey for dead.
  +
  +
After suffering from nightmares for a week, Devon tells Mick he'll go back for Kelsey, hoping he's still alive so that he can nurse him back to health, and convinces Mick to cover for him. Mick promises. Devon goes back to the pizzeria and feels inside the suit for Kelsey, only for the springlocks to fail again, crushing his arm. As Devon struggles to escape, he sees a corpse with curly black hair inside, which puzzles him as Kelsey had blonde hair. Devon then presumably dies of water loss after being sucked inside the suit.
  +
  +
The Man in Room 1280 implies the body Devon found was Andrew's one, as both have curly black hair.

*Although Cassidy is a girl in the novels, their gender in the games is ambiguous. While Cassidy does speak a female voice during Ultimate Custom Night, Scott Cawthon said that the voice shouldn't be immediately clear, and it could work as both a young boy and a young girl. The animatronics also refer to Golden Freddy as a he, and if one would believe Midnight Motorist to be an explanation for how Cassidy was captured by William, then they are referred to as a boy in the minigame, too. It can also be interpreted that they call Golden Freddy a he because while the ghost is a girl, the Golden Freddy animatronic is a male.

He tried to release you. He tried to release us. But I'm not gonna let that happen. I will hold you here. I will keep you here. No matter how many times they burn us.
~ Cassidy talking through Orville Elephant to William Afton.
IT'S ME.
~ The quote almost always associated with Golden Freddy.

Golden Freddy is a major antagonist in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. He is a mysterious ghost incarnation of Fredbear, the mascot of the original restaurant, Fredbear's Family Diner.

He serves as a minor antagonist in the original Five Nights at Freddy's, the final antagonist of Five Nights at Freddy's 2, a supporting character in Five Nights at Freddy's 3, the main antagonist of Ultimate Custom Night and a major antagonist in Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery. He also appears as a supporting protagonist in the non-canon spinoffs FNAF World and Freddy in Space 2.

In the non-canon novel trilogy, he is actually the ghost of a murdered child named Michael Brooks. His identity in the game is one of William Afton's victims, named Cassidy.

Appearance

Games

Golden Freddy appears to be a cross between Freddy and Fredbear with missing eyes. His hat and bow tie appear to be tinted dark blue, as opposed to Freddy's black ones and Fredbear's purple ones, though this may be the result of lighting. In the office, he has extremely small white pupils, but the close-up of his face doesn't show them. Golden Freddy is the Animatronic ghost version of a dead child, named Cassidy.

Books

In the novel trilogy and the Fazbear Frights series, Golden Freddy is described simply as being a molded golden bear with a light purplish blue hat and appears to be a cross between Freddy and Fredbear. Due to being a springlock suit, it can be presumed it had five fingers. In the Fazbear Frights, Golden Freddy has the body of Andrew inside him.

Biography

Note: This is in the order of the timeline.

Backstory

Five Nights at Freddy's 2

After Fritz Smith's shift on Night 7, where the animatronics' AI levels are altered, the original four animatronics are repaired and taken to the Five Nights at Freddy's pizzeria. Golden Freddy takes the form of a yellow repaired Freddy Fazbear.

Five Nights at Freddy's

Five Nights at Freddy's 3

Similar to their Fazbear Frights' counterpart, Golden Freddy attaches himself to the William's soul to ensure that he can't die, allowing Cassidy to torment William as Springtrap. After the fire of Fazbear's Fright, William burns in a huge fire, but he can't die as Cassidy is keeping him alive to suffer.

Five Nights at Freddy's 4

While Golden Freddy himself doesn't appear in the game, Fredbear, the animatronic that Golden Freddy is based on, appears in the minigames.

Ultimate Custom Night

The withered version of Golden Freddy appears as an antagonist.

This serves as another hint that the soul inside of Golden Freddy (Cassidy) still exists as a ghost and is indeed the one controlling the personal hell William is trapped in.

Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery

Golden Freddy is a combination of most of the animatronics before him. His footsteps are silent and he haywires frequently. When the encounter starts, his face and "IT'S ME" will flash on the screen quickly. The player has to use a tablet to rotate the mechanics used to defeat Golden Freddy: a flashlight, a mask, the shocker and the timer. When he haywires, the player must put on the mask, like the Toys. They must look at him when he has white eyes, and look away if he has red, like Springtrap. He must be shocked three times to be defeated, with the face and "IT'S ME" appearing when you get to the next phase. In the first phase, you only need to use the mask, flashlight and shocker. The second phase is quite similiar, but he now has Toy Freddy's power draining mechanic. In the third phase, you need to find his hat and shock him for the third and final time, defeating the golden bear.

Other Media

FNAF World

Golden Freddy returns in this game as a playable character, which needs to be unlocked.

Golden Freddy's moves are:

  • Jumpscare - Stuns all enemies for a few seconds.
  • Rainy Day 2 - Temporarily decreases all enemies defense and damages all enemies multiple times.
  • Haunting - Summons a ghost version of Freddy Fazbear that can Freeze a opponent for a short time. Doesn't work on bosses.

Golden Freddy is a support character, although not great, since Rainy Day 2 is the only move that can kill. He needs allies to survive, because he won't make it far alone.

Freddy in Space 2

Golden Freddy returns in this spin-off made to donate to St. Jude as one of the six playable characters, alongside Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and The Puppet. Compared to others, he doesn't look human-like, but still has his original appearance.

Novels

Five Nights at Freddy's: The Silver Eyes

Golden Freddy is a far more benevolent and heroic character in the novel than in the game series, acting as a guide to the main characters. He is first discovered by Carlton while he is trapped in a spring lock suit. When his kidnapper, William Afton, leaves the room, Carlton notices a yellow Freddy costume sitting in the corner, with two glowing pinpricks in its empty eyes.

Golden Freddy begins speaking, though not aloud, and Carlton realizes that Golden Freddy is the spirit of his childhood friend, Michael Brooks, one of Afton's previous victims. As Charlie enters the room to rescue Carlton, he points out Golden Freddy in the corner and informs her that he was Michael all along. Once Carlton is released from the suit with Charlie's help, Golden Freddy mysteriously vanishes without a sound.

As Freddy Fazbear and his cohorts come to life and attack the teenagers aggressively, they end up in the main room, where they proceed to form a circle around them, and as they are about to lunge, all four of them stop in place, Golden Freddy now standing in the corner, revealing that he had the power to stop them from hurting his friends.

However, as Charlie and her friends attempt to leave, William Afton, now wearing the Spring Bonnie suit, grabs her by the neck and threatens to kill her unless the party obeys him. Enraged at her assailant, Charlie punches him, and finally causes every last spring lock in his suit to go off rapidly, sending Afton to a slow and painful end. One by one, the four animatronics approach him and drag their dying murderer into the darkness of the pizzeria to complete their revenge, with Golden Freddy finally disappearing into the afterlife.

Five Nights at Freddy's: The Twisted Ones

John, Jessica, and Clay Burke went to see Withered Freddy, Withered Bonnie, Withered Chica, Foxy, and Golden Freddy to save Charlie from William Afton who is Springtrap, Twisted Freddy, Twisted Wolf and Twisted Bonnie when John saw pupils inside of Golden Freddy John knew that Golden Freddy was still possessed by their old friend Michael Brooks and the children that were murdered by William Afton and when John said the name William Afton, Withered Freddy, Withered Bonnie, Withered Chica, and Withered Foxy started to get up and followed them but when Withered Foxy, Withered Bonnie, Withered Chica, and Withered Freddy came to help Charlie and her friends and Clay Burke, Golden Freddy didn’t come.

Five Nights at Freddy's: The Fourth Closet

Golden Freddy himself doesn't make an appearance in The Fourth Closet, but his endoskeleton was melded into an amalgamation that William Afton used to get a remnant from. After Carlton was injected with remnant, Michael psychically appears, along with the four other missing children, to put together a set of drawings. After the drawings were put together, he gives him one of the his drawings, then disappears.

Fazbear Frights

The New Kid

The Man in Room 1280 implies the body Devon found was Andrew's one, as both have curly black hair.

Trivia

  • It is heavily implied that Golden Freddy is a spring lock suit, like Springtrap, in the sense of the ability to be both an animatronic and a wearable suit, given that the Purple Guy was originally theorized to have worn the Golden Freddy suit to lure the five children to the back and killed them, the endoskeleton is visible in the images of Golden Freddy, shares the yellow color, and in one of the minigames in Five Nights at Freddy's 3, Golden Freddy is shown entertaining children on a stage alongside Springtrap.
    • However, this isn't true, as Golden Freddy is a simple ghost.
  • Since Golden Freddy has the phrase "IT'S ME" whenever he is summoned, and crashes the game if one has 1-9-8-7 as the custom A.I. in the Custom Night, many players suspected that he was the cause of The Bite of '87. This does not work on the updated version of the first game.
  • As of version 1.13, setting the A.I. levels to 1/9/8/7 on Custom Night causes Golden Freddy's kill screen to appear, forcing the game to close. This was put in by Scott Cawthon to end the rumors of The Bite of '87, stating that entering the input 1/9/8/7 would have an alternate ending.
  • Many theories say Golden Freddy was originally brown, but being in the dark, never being used or the lighting turned him yellow, but in the third game, this theory was confirmed to be false, because, in the "Stage01" minigame, Golden Freddy still retains his color.
  • Golden Freddy's kill screen is similar to the Freddy hallucination screen but is colored gold and without eyes.
  • In the trailer for Five Nights at Freddy's 2, one of the children's drawings, depicts Golden Freddy with the endoskeleton eyes singing to them.
  • The animatronic noise that killed Phone Guy is the same as Golden Freddy's, implying that he killed him.
  • Golden Freddy's scream in Five Nights at Freddy's is a slowed down version of the other animatronics' scream, supporting the theory that the Puppet stuffed deceased children in the animatronic suits (as seen in the "Give Gifts, Give Life" minigame) with the fifth child possessing Golden Freddy. This theory is confirmed in the third game, most evidently in "Happiest Day".
    • In Five Nights at Freddy's 2, its scream is also different, being a louder version of the normal scream, and clips midway.
  • Before the third game, Golden Freddy was believed to be the suit Afton wore to kill the children, however, it is later revealed in later games that Spring Bonnie was the suit used, but the theory is still popular.
  • Golden Freddy can be seen on Night 2 of Five Nights at Freddy's 2, as seen in this video at 4:24.
  • Although his full name is Michael Brooks in Five Nights at Freddy's: The Silver Eyes, the events of the novel, while considered canon by the creator, is an alternate continuity to the game series. The Survival Logbook heavily hints that Golden Freddy's name is actually Cassidy.
  • In the game files for Five Nights at Freddy's 3, Phantom Freddy's file name is Golden Freddy.
  • In Freddy in Space 2, Golden Freddy is the only playable character who still looks like an animatronic, unlike the other characters.
  • Golden Freddy is one of the few animatronics who doesn't appear in Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted. However, there is an Easter Egg which may relate to him. In the Curse of Dreadbear DLC, after completing a level, the player can find inside the warehouse three Halloween posters which previously appeared in the images of the salvaged animatronics from Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator. If the player throws some darts at the posters when they're identical, then the sentence "IT'S ME" will appear, along with music and flashing lights.
  • Strangely, Withered Golden Freddy in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is more beaten up than his version in the original. It is unknown why Golden Freddy seems to be less damaged in the first game, since Five Nights at Freddy's takes place after the events of Five Nights at Freddy's 2, and would have likely not have been repaired.
    • Their jumpscares also differ. In the first game Golden Freddy's jumpscare crashes the game, while in the second game Withered Golden Freddy's jumpscare only kills the player and doesn't crash the game.
  • Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery is the first game in the series where Golden Freddy stands up.
  • While Golden Freddy is confirmed to be one of William Afton's victims, some speculate that the dead child shares the body with the Crying Child from the fourth game.
  • Although Cassidy is a girl in the novels, their gender in the games is ambiguous.
