Erik Josten, also better known as Goliath or Atlas, is a supporting antagonist in the third season of Avengers Assemble.
Initially a supervillain and a member of the Masters of Evil, he is genetically modified with ionic rays, granting him the power of size alteration, superhuman strength, and invulnerability. He uses the name Goliath to fight the Avengers before later adopting the superhero identity of Atlas and joining the Thunderbolts.
He was voiced by Jesse Burch.
Biography[]
Goliath joined the Masters of Evil along with Fixer, Beetle, Screaming Mimi, and Moonstone. Together, the villains suffered one defeat after another at the hands of the Avengers until they joined forces with Baron Zemo, who became their new leader. He participates in attacks on the Avengers, including a major assault on the Avengers Tower, which involved tearing the building apart and locking down its systems to steal experimental technology and high-output fuel cells.
Under Baron Zemo's plan, Josten assumes the fake superhero identity of "Atlas" as part of the Thunderbolts to gain public trust and access to resources, all while secretly furthering Zemo's criminal goals of world domination. Ultimately, Josten has a change of heart, betrays Zemo, and turns himself in to the authorities with the other reformed Thunderbolts members, hoping to become official heroes after serving their time.
Powers[]
- Size and Mass Enhancement: He can grow to be as tall as a skyscraper, which proportionally increases his physical attributes.
- Superhuman Strength: His strength is immense, capable of rivaling even a calm Hulk's strength when fully grown.
- Superhuman Durability: His body becomes highly resistant to damage and physical injury as he grows in size.
Trivia[]
- In the comics, the character Clint Barton, better known as Hawkeye, temporarily used the Goliath identity and Pym Particles when his bow was broken and he needed to continue fighting alongside the Avengers. This version makes a cameo appearance in the Avengers Assemble series, though the connection between the characters is not explicitly made in the show itself.
