Gomez is the secondary antagonist of 2001 video game Gothic. He is the most powerful Ore Baron, the leader of the Old Camp and the most powerful man in the Colony in the Valley of the Mines.
Biography[]
Gomez was one of the convicts that were deported to the penal colony in The Valley of the Mines. Twelve mages created a magic barrier to prevent the prisoners from escaping, but the power of an ancient archdemon, the Sleeper, upset the balance of magic and the mages were also trapped. The barrier distracted the king's guards. Gomez and his minions killed the king's guards. The fire magicians alone were not hurt. This is where his ascension began.

The convicts took power over Khorinis. The king needed the ore to continue the war against the orcs, so he offered an agreement to Gomez. The prisoners could get whatever they wanted, in exchange for constantly mining ore for the king. Gomez thus gained enormous power, as the king himself was subordinate, as the transport of the ore depended on him. However, more and more people began to worry and be nervous about how much he was abusing his power and how cruel his nature was. Several convict left the castle and they split into three camps. The castle became the Old Camp in The Valley of the Mines , where Gomez and the ore barons ruled. Raven, his right hand was the second most powerful man after him, followed by the other ore barons: Bartholo, who oversaw the ore trade, and Scar and Artho, who became Gomez's bodyguards. Of the other two camps, one was the New Camp, where the leaders were the water mages, and the third was the Sect Camp, where the gurus were the leaders. Gomez became the most powerful man in the Colony, yet he had many enemies.
He was not liked by many for several reasons. Perhaps the main reason is his overly arrogant and totalitarian behavior. His men abused their power too much and Gomez did nothing to prevent this from happening. Most of the Old Camp’s men was loyal to him, yet a few disliked the system and Gomez's reign of authority. The relationship with the other two camps was tense and the people of Gomez were not really respected. All his power depended on the Old Mine, where the ore was mined for the king.
One day an nameless convict arrived in the Colony, who quickly gained respect for himself in the Old Camp and got into Gomez. Gomez was only interested in the new man because he knew others from the other camps. With Gomez's permission, the man became a shadow. His right-hand Raven gave him a quest to find out what the Gurus in the Sect Camp were planning. The Gurus wanted to contact Sleeper. The hero maintained good relations with all camps and helped them, but then serious trouble occurred, as the Old Mine collapsed. This was a great blow to Gomez as the mine secured his power. Since the mine assured him that he could receive anything, the king was no longer obliged to give him anything. Gomez knew very well that his power was beginning to sway, but he also knew he had to do anything to keep his position. He ordered two dozen men to attack the Free Mine immediately. The fire magicians protested against this, as Gomez would start a war that way. However, the power-hungry leader with the ore barons killed all the fire magicians who were in the castle. He then locked himself in the castle and ordered the guards to kill anyone who came near the castle. He regarded the nameless hero and Milten as a traitor and conspirator because they were outside the camp when the events happened. However, the incident quickly spread word and there were more and more people against the rule of Gomez and the ore barons. The nameless hero then thought to himself that whether or not he destroy to barrier the dome, he must stop Gomez. He and his friend Gorna liberated the Free Mine and killed his men, including Jackal, an experienced warrior of the Old Camp. Meanwhile, Gomez accuses his best blacksmith Stone of betrayal, who is locked up in prison and guarded by Scar.
With the ore armor and the legendary might weapon Uriziel, the hero teleported to the Old Camp because he thought it was time to give a rightful punishment to the ore barons, especially their leader. Bartholo was the first person he met, then Raven, Artho and Scar. Raven was seriously wounded and Bartholo, Artho and Scar died. Gomez was very surprised that the hero had entered his throne room and that he had defeated all the ore barons. However, he told him contemptuously and boastfuly that he will kill him personaly. But he hadn’t pulled out his sword yet because he didn’t take seriously that the hero really wanted to kill him. The hero pulled out Uriziel and Gomez pulled out his sword. The two men fell to each other. The nameless hero eventually defeated the leader of the ore barons and the former most powerful man in the Colony. Gomez lay dead and his reign of terror was over.

“ | Gomez: How did you get in here? Hang on! Aren't you the one that fought our men in the Free Mine?. Hero: Your men had no right to invade it. I just corrected their attack of megalomania. Gomez: Talking to me, GOMEZ, in that way shows some courage. But it was foolish of you to turn up here like that. I will personally take care that you never get in my way again. |

~ Gomez and the Hero before their showdown. |
Gomez was an extremely domineering, haughty, power-hungry, tyrannical person. Perhaps his most important trait is his rough and very violent, agressive nature. Whatever problem arose, Gomez always wanted to solve it only by force and violence. For example Xardas called him and the ore barons a barbarian butcher, Saturas, called him a slayer. He did not tolerate defiance at all, punishing even the slightest disappointment with death or imprisonment.
Powers and Abilities[]
Gomez became from an average convict to one of the strongest men in the Colony. He had huge physical strength and later learned to handle the sword well. With the ore barons, he also killed orcs and monsters, and gained a lot of experience with them. His sword was a special blade called Wrath of Innos, with even the hero's ore armor being able to be cut through with it.
