Goras is a genetically engineered weapon remade from the remains of an aggressive prehistoric species, who once resided on Titania.
Goras appeared in Star Fox 64 and the 3DS remake as the boss of Titania, while another one appeared in the manga Star Fox: Farewell, Beloved Falco, who was guided by Captain Shears.
Biography[]
Star Fox 64[]
During the search for Slippy after he crash landed on Titania, Goras makes it's first appearance in Star Fox 64, at the end of the Landmaster route on Titania, hidden in some Cacti. Fox found Slippy's Arwing stuck in one of Goras' protruding claws, and it soon rose up from underground when Fox woke the monster up.
During the boss battle, Goras will attack Fox's Landmaster using it's long arms With built in lasers and hard claws to try and smash the tank. If Slippy is still caught in Goras' arm, it may try to use him as a shield against Fox’s laser, annoying Slippy. After Fox takes out its arms, Slippy will become free to retreat to safety and quickly upload the boss health meter. When Goras makes a 360 degree spin, it will also use it's strong tail as another way to attack. Goras can also use a devastating energy spitfire to whittle down Fox's health gauge if the creature makes its mark. Only by taking out all of Goras' arms can the boss weak point, the heart, be exposed to attack, but the bioweapon will respawn it's arms if the process takes too long.
Star Fox: Farewell, Beloved Falco[]
Four years after Andross's defeat, Katt Monroe and her gang were caught stealing top secret data from the Titania Research Base and the chief executive Captain Shears sent another Goras to stop the gang from leaving the planet with the data they found. Goras was too strong for the space runaway gang, forcing Katt to send an urgent distress call to Falco Lombardi from the Titanian surface. Falco arrives in time and saves Katt by shooting Goras using his Arwing’s superior firepower, causing the creature to retreat.
Goras is later deployed again, as a part of Shears’ plan to take a hostage. Goras manages to catch Slippy while driving a Landmaster on a recon mission, who is already haunted by bad memories of the last time he was captured by a Goras on the planet.
Eventually, Captain Shears worries that the Star Fox team and the Hot Rodders have checked the contents of the stolen data and sends Goras out to destroy them. Katt and her friends are unable to even scratch the monster due to its defensive hide, but she decides to stand her ground and not retreat. Fortunately for the gang, Falco arrives in his repaired Arwing and attacks Goras. Even when launching it’s monster breath at the Arwing, Falco uses the G-Diffuser to absorb the energy stream and flies right through the bioweapon to pierce the heart, destroying Goras. It starts to become skeletonized by the blast and falls to the ground, and would've smashed Katt hadn't Kool shoved her out of the way.
This particular Goras has the name "Golas" in the English dub of the manga.
Trivia[]
- Goras is comparable to the Xenomorph species who originated from the namesake Alien franchise. The rear cover of the Nintendo Power Star Fox 64 Strategy Guide even recites the Alien series iconic tag line: "In space, no one can hear you scream.".
