Gotai is one of the main protagonists from Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East. He was an orc warchief, the adopted son of Quroq and khan of the orcs.

Biography[]

Gotai had a difficult childhood as his parents were killed by yetis and he had no other family members alive, so he was adopted and raised by an orc chieftain named Quroq. The young orc became a promising and strong warrior who respected his father and was more loyal to him than anyone else. One day, shaman Kijun predicted from the bones and also spoke about the prophecy of the Dark Messiah, who can decide the fate of the world. However, Quroq thought he was this particular person and decided to conquer the world for the orcs, and lead a rebellion against a slaveholding order, the Red Church. Kujin asked Gotai to stop his father, but he believed it was a great opportunity for the orcs to rise and have a good future. Quroq's campaign was initially successful, defeating a small army of the reds, then capturing and burning Voron peak. Gotai was proud of his father and happy about his success, but the enemy then began to prepare after the victory. The second most important man of the Red Church, Archbishop Alaric, set out with a large and powerful army to stop the orcs. The humans also suffered casualties in the battle, but in the end the orcs suffered a heavy defeat and Quroq was mortally wounded. His last words and will were for Gotai to become the new Khan and avenge him by killing Alaric.

When Gotai found out that his father had died, he became very angry and wanted to kill his new archenemy at all costs, but Kujin warned him that he would not be able to do it alone. He have to earn the position of Khan and he need a united and large army. Gotai accepted Kujin's proposal, however he also had a rival, Kragh, so he had to defeat him in a race. The task was to collect a thousand heads and give them to Kujin. However, the shaman told Gotai that he could increase his chances by bribe some goblins to collect heads for him. Although Gotai was an honorable orc, he felt this was necessary now as he wanted to get revenge as soon as possible. In addition to bribe the goblins, he burned and destroyed the houses of the peasants in the area and killed every creature he saw. With this, he also increased his combat experience and collected more and more heads. In the end, he managed to collect the thousand heads, which he took to Kujin, and thus Gotai passed the test. However, an orc executioner, Tengal, did not want to accept this and wanted to be the new Khan. Gotai warned him that they must fight for the freedom of the orcs, but he did not listen to him and attacked the new khan. However, the Khan's warriors defeated the traitors and Gotai easily killed Tengal. Gotai then marched with all his warriors and armies against Alaric and the Red Church, while Kujin went to speak with other chieftains so that the Khan could receive as many reinforcements and support as possible. The shaman was successful, because the leaders heard good things about Gotai and followed him.

Meanwhile, Gotai could finally start his revenge campaign, but he wanted to take revenge not only for his adoptive father, but also for the fact that the orcs were slaves of the Griffin Empire for years. The new Khan inflicted terrifyingly high losses on the enemy. He defeated the known and famous generals of the empire, Andreas, Betrand, Dougal, Gabrielle, Maeve, Valeria and Klaus, who also defeated Quroq once. In addition, the horde destroyed six cities, slaughtered their inhabitants and burned all the peasant huts in the area. The orcs' war machine worked great and Gotai's army marched on successfully.

Before Gotai marches against Alaric, he wants to visit Kunyak's grave to pay his respects to the legendary orc leader. The tomb was in the land of the wizards, so fighting was inevitable. Gotai wreaked havoc here as well, destroying several large armies of wizards and capturing three of their cities, as well as capturing a city of the Griffin Empire and several armies of the Red Church and he also defeated an infamous necromancer, Zoltan and his undead army. After Gotai paid respect to Kunyak and his memory, he was determined to march against Alaric to avenge the death of Quroq. But then Alaric arrived from the north with a huge and strong army, and his goal was to kill some of the orcs and take the rest as new slaves. The two great armies fought in the desert, rocky territory of the wizards, but Gotai did not make his father's mistake, he was not arrogant and used a different strategy. The Red Church suffered a great defeat, Alaric and a few fanatics survived, surrounded by hordes of orcs. Gotai and Khengi approaching them and the goblin said that the khan was challenging the archbishop to a duel, giving him a chance to die an honorable death, and the survivors weren't sure to die, since Gotai only had Alaric's death his goal. However, Alaric was so crazy that he thought the little goblin was a demon too. Khengi again offered the opportunity to duel against Gotai, but then the archbishop ordered the goblin to be killed, who was shot down by two crossbowmen. Gotai became very angry and declared that all the Red Soldiers and Alaric would be given a dishonorable death. However, the archbishop was not afraid, but wanted to cut off Gotai's head, because he believed that if he took it to Biara and gave it to her, she would turn back into Queen Isabel and become an angel. This only infuriated the Orc Khan even more, who issued a death sentence to the enemy with his battle cry. The fanatics fought to the end, but after a short time they died one after the other. Alaric was left alone, whom Gotai wanted to kill personally. The archbishop wanted to attack with magic, but he was too weakened in the fight and Gotai might have been a bit resistant to magic. The Khan attacked with his axe and killed Alaric with a single strike, who fell dead next to his soldiers. Gotai believed that this was the end of his fight and that Quroq could finally rest in peace. Then Kujin appeared with her army and announced that the war was not over yet. He said that the main person how responsible for the war, Biara, is still alive and is constantly summoning more and more demonic beings in Talonguard. The necromancers led by Lord Arantir had already set out, but Kujin said that other peoples were also gathering armies against the demons. Gotai then decided to join the invasion and kill Biara. However, before that they met the supreme leader of the mages, Zehir

Here, they got here what they almost never got from wizards. Zehir received them with respect, they even received a salute from the gremlins. The young wizard was grateful that the orcs helped defeat the demonic cultists in the territories of the wizards and was friendly with them, and he did not support slavery of the orcs. Despite this, Gotai didn't trust him, but he was very surprised when the wizard gave them an artifact, the Staff of Kunyak. The orc leader began to open up, but then he was truly surprised to learn that Zehir had fought with his companions against the demon sovereign, Kha-Beleth personally. Gotai then felt that he could really trust him and accepted the alliance.

Gotai and his armies took part in the final battle, in which the united armies defeat the demons once and for all and Biara suffers his final defeat. However, Kujin stops Gotai from killing Biara, as this is Isabel's revenge and she must to kill the succubus for her crimes. After Biara's death, Gotai befriends the leaders of the alliance and can finally find peace with the orcs.
