I have never in all of my life been possessed by such a fear as I was then. The walls and floor seemed to rise towards me, stealing the air from my lungs until I swear that I could feel the splinters from the ceiling digging into the soft skin of my face. I couldn’t move as the thudding boot tread came to a halt outside the door, and the cane came to rest with a final clack.
~ Sampson Kempthorne describing the effects of the Governor.

The Governor is a minor antagonist of the Rusty Quill horror podcast The Magnus Archives, serving as the main antagonist of Mag 50: Foundations. He was a mysterious man who lived in London around the 1830s who seemed to have power over small spaces. He was somehow involved in George Gilbert Scott's construction of an impractical workhouse.

Appearance[]

The Governor was described as short and wide with a tall black hat that revealed wisps of grey hair. He carried a black cane with an iron tip, and his presence was made known by the sound of a jangling of keys.

Personality[]

From what little is shown of the Governor, he has an amoral view of the world and is perfectly willing to torture and kill for small or incomprehensible reasons. He seemed to be somewhat classist, as he was involved in making a particularly inhumane warehouse and apparently despised the "idle", to the point of murdering a man he believed wasn't working his hardest.

Biography[]

The Governor's origins are unknown, but he was living in London in the 1830s and at somehow became acquainted with George Gilbert Scott, a young architect who exposure to the supernatural under the tutelage of Robert Smirke had encourage him to make an extremely cramped and impractical workhouse. The Governor became involved in the construction and at one point murdered one of the workers by trapping him in a wall, dubbing him "idle".

For unknown reasons, late one night, the Governor visited Sampson Kempthorne, another architect. Using his powers, he forced the man through an undefinable claustrophobic experience before putting a plan to Scott's workhouse on his desk and leaving.

Powers and Abilities[]

The Governor seemed to have power over spaces. He was able to make a room smaller and trap a man inside of a wall using only his mind. He was able to somehow use these abilities to enter a building without the door.

Trivia[]

  • The Governor is strongly implied to be an avatar of the Buried.
