~ Grace to her father, Everett, after killing two people |
Grace Lynch is a supporting antagonist in the TV crime drama Criminal Minds. She is the daughter and accomplice of Everett Lynch, a prolific con artist and serial killer.
She was portrayed by Alex Jennings.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Grace is the only child of con artist and serial killer Everett Lynch and his partner Liz Coster, who died of an Oxycontin overdose when Grace was five years old.
Following Liz's death Everett moved with her to Aberdeen, Mississippi to be closer to his mother, Roberta, who would help him raise the girl; she was also a con artist and serial killer in her own right and used her son and granddaughter in her schemes to swindle and murder wealthy men.
Everett disowned his mother, however, after she nearly let Grace to drown in a bathtub because she wasn't paying attention. Nevertheless, Roberta got custody of Grace when he ran off to evade the police. She put Grace in a prestigious private school on a scholarship by posing the girl as "Rachel Norton", her orphaned granddaughter. Grace received multiple disciplinary marks before she eventually dropped out, just ahead of the school discovered that her scholarship was based on fraud,
Wanting a relationship with her father, Grace sought Everett out, against Roberta's wishes, and began helping him with his scams. They incorporated Grace's near-death experience into Everett's cons, luring his victims - all middle-aged, wealthy divorcées - with a sob story about Roberta's abuse and neglect and the promise that they could all be one big, happy family. Once they had a victim's trust, Everett murdered them, took their money, and cut off their faces to keep as trophies.
At about this time, Grace began dating a wealthy former classmate named Charlotte Burke, but she eventually broke off the relationship so she could follow her father to Washington D.C., where his next intended victim, Mary Cullen, lived.
"Chameleon"[]
Much to her own surprise, Grace takes a liking to Mary, and she pleads with Everett not to hurt her. When Mary proposes to Everett, he accepts - and then knocks her unconscious with a vase in front of a horrified Grace.
Sometime later, Everett gets a phone call from a now-imprisoned Roberta's lawyer warning him that the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is about to arrest him. He gets Grace to participate in a ruse to fool the BAU by tying her up and having her tell the agents of the BAU that he had tried to kill her, which gives him enough time to put Mary in a barn on her property and set it on fire. While Agents David Rossi, Tara Lewis, and Matt Simmons go after Everett, Grace calls out to him to warn him and stabs Agent Luke Alvez in the arm. Ultimately, the BAU saves Mary and arrests Grace, while Everett escapes.
Rossi visits Grace in prison and asks her to talk to him about her father.
"Under the Skin"[]
Six months later, Everett visits Grace in her cell as she is being transferred to another federal prison, posing as her new lawyer. He kills the federal marshals guarding her and leads her through the tunnels under the prison to a van he had stolen for them to escape in. When BAU Agent Jennifer Jareau tries to stop them, Grace shoots her in the abdomen, nearly killing her and allowing them to escape.
"Awakenings"[]
After they lose the police and the BAU, Everett tells Grace that they need to part ways, promising vaguely to find her in a few months. She insists that he stay with her, saying that he owes her for being absent for so much of her life and promising that she can be useful to him. She impresses her father by talking her way into Roger and Barbara Foster's house and killing them both, and then offering up Barbara's corpse for him to mutilate, saying that the dead woman is his "type".
The next day, Grace meets with Charlotte for lunch and lies to her that Roberta is dead and that her house is about to go into foreclosure. Charlotte, who still has feelings for Grace, offers to help her financially, an offer Grace "reluctantly" accepts. Grace asks Charlotte to come home with her, only to kidnap her and bring her to Everett, who cuts Charlotte's fingertip off so that Grace, disguised as Charlotte, can use her fingerprint to access the money in her safe deposit box.
BAU Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia discovers that the Fosters had funded the scholarship that Roberta exploited to send Grace to private school. Alvez and Simmons search Charlotte's apartment and find Charlotte alive and Grace dead, murdered by her own father. They also find that Everett has cut off her face and taken it with him as a trophy.
