Grace Monroe is a major character in Infinity Train, serving as one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Simon Laurent) of Book 2 and the main protagonist of Book 3.

Grace is a passenger on the Infinity Train and the leader of a group of young passengers formally known as The Apex. She is a good person at heart, but she takes on a villainous role at times due to her parents neglecting her before eventually redeeming herself.

She was voiced by Kirby Howell-Baptiste.

Appearance[]

Grace is a young African American woman with short dark hair styled into dreadlocks. She also has a red horizontal squiggly line across her face. She wears an outfit that consists of a pale orange top with two shoplifting tags on both sleeves and a red and purple triangular pattern on the trim of both sleeves over a pink bra with greyish-purple shorts, golden earrings which look like exclamation marks turned upside down, a green fanny pack, purple knee pads and pale red sneakers.

Biography[]

Past[]

During her childhood, Grace was neglected by her parents and forced herself to seek attention and validation from everyone. This trait would eventually carry over into her later years.

In the show[]

In the show, Grace is an abusive friend towards Hazel, Jesse, Simon and most of her allies. She also terrorizes and murders many denizens and psychologically abuses several people.

However, she later takes accountability for her actions and cares for more people around her. Then, she redeems herself and rejects most of her negative traits with the intent of becoming a much better person. At the end of the series, she tries to assure the children of the former Apex that one day, she will return.

Trivia[]

  • Grace and her role were inspired by Peter Pan and Wendy Darling. Although she started off like Peter, by the end of the third season she is a lot more like Wendy.
  • Grace, and her incredibly high number, can be seen on a screen in the finale of Book 1.
  • The crew of the show said that Book 3 was written as a tragedy, a genre where bad and sorrowful events happen to the protagonist usually due to their own faults. In this case, Grace forming the Apex and its philosophy led to the murder of Tuba, the trauma of Hazel, and the villainous path and death of Simon.
  • According to creator Owen Dennis, Grace is from Washington, D.C. However, he had also stated that his extratextual statements were not considered true. Nonetheless, the fact that her parents seem to hold a great deal of status and host parties for ambassadors does highly imply that they live in the capital city.
