Gracos is a minor antagonist in the video game Dragon Quest VII. Making his second appearance as a minor antagonist, he works for Orgodemir in the game, and is responsible for drowning an entire island in the past. He is fought at the Sunken Citadel.
Personality[]
Unlike his Dread Fiend counterpart, VII's version of Gracos is far more sadistic, considering the damned souls he torments to be mere playthings. He is also more boastful in this appearance, bragging about his abilities to the player.
Biography[]
Before the event of the game, Gracos attacked an island with a temple that worshipped the Four Great Spirits, using his hydrokinetic magic to drag it underwater. As the survivors of the calamity fled to form the town of Wetlock, Gracos built a fortress, the Sunken Citadel, on its remains. Gracos also trapped the souls of his victims in his dungeon to torment them for his enjoyment, while also using them as lookouts.
Gracos soon targeted Wetlock too as well, although Old Man Riffer managed to discover this through his precognition. Playing a hypnotizing melody on his flute, he brought everyone to a tall watchtower to escape the flood. However, Gracos's flood is so terrible that soon, almost the entire island is underwater. Thus, Riffer requested the heroes to travel to the past to slay Gracos.
Once in the past, heroes invaded the Sunken Citadel and confronted Gracos. Having expected their arrival, Gracos summoned the souls of his past victims and transformed them into sunken spirits, intent on killing the heroes in order to "free" them. After they were defeated, Gracos mocked them for their foolishness, proclaiming that they whill be in his dungeon for as long as he lives. Luckily, Riffer soon arrived to the scene to free the enslaved spirits, playing a tune to send the souls to the afterlife. Angry at being deprived of his toys, Gracos attacked the heroes, only to be slain for good. As he laid dying, he destroyed the bridge that lead to the outside of his throne room as an attempt to trap the heroes once more, only for Riffer to open a portal for everyone to leave regardless.
