Ferdinand, also known as The Grand Duke, is the main antagonist of the Twisted Tale book So This Is Love. Throughout the book, he attempted to gain the power of the throne by manipulating King George into making him his successor.
Role in the book[]
Ferdinand’s father, the previous Grand Duke, had a grudge against the fairies, and manipulated King Philip (the King at the time) into getting rid of them, a task which he passed down to his son. He also had a statue of him eradicated in the kingdom, something his son took pride in.
When the Queen of the kingdom was born, many fairies presented her with gifts, such as beauty, wit, etc. However, many of her subjects took advantage of her kindness. When the Queen died, the Grand Duke manipulated King George in his grief to eradicate all the fairies from the kingdom.
However, this would all change when a young girl named Cinderella had help with one fairy named Lenore to go to the ball. Afterward, she managed to infiltrate the palace by becoming a seamstress and Duke Ferdinand had her spy on King George’s sister, Duchess Genevieve, for any suspicious movements.
However, when it came out that Cinderella was the “mystery princess” the Duke was searching for, he tried to stop her from marrying the Prince. He tried to banish her from the kingdom, then forge a note to the Prince saying she “had second thoughts on marrying him”, then unsuccessfully poison King George, but both he and Cinderella set things right and threw the Duke in jail.
Trivia[]
This version of the Grand Duke is the second known version of the character to be truly villainous, the first being Grand Duke (2015).
