Grant Cutler is the main antagonist of the 2019 western film The Kid.
He is the abusive and ruthless uncle of Rio and Sara Cutler, and at the same time, their archenemy, as he seeks to kill them as revenge for the death of his brother.
He was portrayed by Chris Pratt, who also voiced to Rex Dangervest in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.
Biography[]
Rio and his older sister, Sara, are forced to flee their home after Rio kills their abusive father in an attempt to protect his mother. Their violent uncle, Grant Cutler, is now hunting them down for revenge.
While on the run, the siblings encounter the notorious outlaw Billy the Kid and his gang. Rio is initially in awe of the famous figure and trusts him to help them. The siblings' flight is cut short when they cross paths with Sheriff Pat Garrett, who is relentlessly pursuing Billy. Garrett captures Billy and takes both the outlaw and the siblings with him to Santa Fe. During the journey, Rio is caught between the two iconic figures and begins to question his admiration for Billy. While Billy is charismatic, he is also a killer. In contrast, Garrett—initially appearing grim and unpleasant—reveals a more thoughtful and complex worldview.
An final confrontation: In Santa Fe, the ruthless Uncle Grant catches up to the siblings and kidnaps Sara, forcing Rio into a difficult choice. Feeling betrayed by Billy, Rio seeks out Garrett, who confronts Grant in a saloon.
During a tense standoff, Garrett faces off against Grant. In the ensuing fight, Sara shoots one of the men who assaulted her, and Rio kills Grant. Garrett, who has a moral code, spares the siblings and tells them to make something of their lives.
Garrett tracked down and killed Billy the Kid at the ranch of his friend Pete Maxwell, marking the end of the infamous outlaw. Rio and Sara leave their past behind and ride off toward an uncertain future.
