Are you clever?
~ The Grasshopper Curse.

The Grasshopper Curse, or referred as Ko-Guy by Mahito, is a minor antagonist in the anime and manga series Jujutsu Kaisen. He is a cursed spirit that came as the result of all the negative emotions that humans had on the grasshopper plague across the world. At Tokyo Metro, he was assigned to guard BF2 section where he encountered Yuji Itadori, a Tokyo Jujutsu High student.

He is voiced by Mitsuaki Kanuka in Japanese.

Appearance[]

As the curse that gains existence from the fear insect in his name, he is a humanoid grasshopper with a very muscular build and has most of the traits that the insects he is born from have, including orange-coloured compound eyes with large black pupils that can also be barely seen if he is shocked, yellow antennas, two pairs of wings, a large abdomen that act as a tail to laugh at his victim, which is used to lay eggs by regular grasshoppers, and two pair of muscular arms like the insects.

Personality[]

Yuji Itadori: The patchfaced cursed spirit is here, right?

Grasshopper Curse: Patch... face? Patchface?
Yuji Itadori: The one with stiches all over his face.
Grasshopper Curse: Don't insult me! I know that much!

~ The curse struggling at answering Yuji.

Although capable of speech, showing that he is a relatively powerful cursed spirit, the Grasshopper Curse appears to be mindless in questioning Yuji's presence and largely stutters in his sentences. Confused as he tries to comprehend whom Yuji is referring to by "Stichface", he gets annoyed when Yuji tells him that he is talking about Mahito by yelling at him that knows that out of annoyance. The curse is simple-minded as he tells Yuji Mahito's location, without seeming to care if this gives him an advantage as an enemy. Deeming himself as an intelligent being, he tends to mention that he is clever and question if Yuji is. He is shocked in hearing that him replying that clever people do not call themselves clever as he holds his mouth out of shock and frightened to his response.

He is slow at telling whether someone appears to be an enemy to him such as he did not show any hostility, but was only arrogant toward Yuji. He only started to fight after Yuji decided to fire his attack first and started getting serious about engaging in a fight out of furiously.

Biography[]

Grasshoper vs yuji

Yuji defeating the Grasshopper Curse.

Yuji confronts the Grasshopper Curse at the entrance of the BF2 section in the subway of Tokyo where is caught devouring a civilian, angering the curse user. He is interrogated by him about Mahito's location but struggles to understand who he meant by "Stichface" before Yuji precises who he is referring to. They soon engage in a destructive battle that takes place across the hallway of the subway as Yuji decides to strike first. Shocked by Yuji being told that clever people do not call themself clever, they engage in a fist-to-fist battle in which he loses, as Yuji overpowers him with ease with the barrage of his two fists against the curse's four.

Still, I am the more clever one.
~ The Grasshoper Curse attempting to kill Yuji with his tail.

Walking toward to finish him off, Yuji dodges an attack of harmful substance that the curse fired out of his mouth. Declaring that he is more clever, he tries to attack Yuji again by surprise by unleashing his abdomen Yuji barely dodges before piercing into his body, shocking the curse moments before he is killed off screen.

Trivia[]

  • In his fist-to-fist against Yuji, the result of the animation was to avoid the same seizure problem that the 38th episode of the Pokémon TV series caused way back in 1997, where at least 600 childrens across Japan have succumbed a seizure. The studio did this by avoiding to use any flashing effects during the curse and Yuji's hand-to hand fight.
