Gravik, later known as the Super-Skrull, is the main antagonist of the 2023 Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe miniseries Secret Invasion.
He is the leader of the Skrull Resistance who took over from Talos as the Skrull leader after he and Nick Fury failed to deliver on their promise to find a world where they can settle in peace. Years after Talos and his Skrull cell managed to escape from the Supreme Intelligence's clutches, Gravik resurfaced with his Skrull rebels, trying to take over Earth and exterminate the human race by starting World War III in order to make it a new world for the Skrulls, becoming the archenemy of Nick Fury, Talos, and G'iah.
Although Gravik assumes various character forms in the series, his main form and human disguise are portrayed by Kingsley Ben-Adir in his first villainous role. As a child, he was portrayed by Lucas Persaud.
Biography[]
History[]
During the Kree-Skrull War, Gravik and his parents were captured by the Kree Empire and imprisoned on an Accuser ship. Gravik's parents were then executed and he managed to escape the Kree by stealing a ship and piloting away from the conflict to an unknown world.
After his escape, Gravik received a widespread message from Talos to any Skrull listening telling them to temporarily move to Earth, until they can find a more permanent home, to which Gravik did. He was then introduced to Nick Fury by Varra, who says he had a hard life because of the Kree and was going to take some getting used to the situation. Gravik also heard a speech given by Nick Fury telling him and the rest of Skrulls that they can stay on Earth and until he, Talos, and Captain Marvel can find them a new home and that he will need their help in keeping Earth from any global threats, which Gravik just smiled at and feeling he could trust Fury.
Years later, Gravik was sent on a first mission by Fury: To kill a misguided man with a family. He succeeded in his mission but not before he took his appearance so he could always remember him and what he did. He also collected scattered DNA from all the heroes who fought against Thanos after the Battle of Earth under Fury's orders. Gravik continued to wait for the new home he was promised but after the Snap and the Blip, Fury changed and could no longer keep his promise, which enraged him.
Afterwards, Gravik decided to make Earth their new home whatever means necessary and joined the Skrull Council to make it happen. Gravik even pushed Talos off of the Council and exiling him, because he couldn't oppose the human race. He then set up a new home for Skrulls, New Skrullos, in Russia, and as a base for the Skrull Resistance, allowing Skrull refugees around the globe to live with their original appearance in New Skrullos. He then formulated a plan to takeover the Earth by causing World War III that would to led to the humans' extinction and by creating a race of Super-Skrulls using DNA from the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Masters of the Mystic Arts, Black Order, Extremis Soldiers, and Captain Marvel.
Secret Invasion[]
While at a table, G'iah brought a new recruit named Beto to Gravik, and he showed him New Skrullos and told him his options of being part of the resistance. Gravik then brought Beto to the fracking pods, where they saw another Skrull named Brogan take the appearance of an Americans Against Russia member as part of their plan to take over Earth.
Later, another Skrull named Pagon informed Gravik that Nick Fury had returned to Earth but assured him that he was not a threat. The following day, Gravik set his plan to bomb Vossoyedineniye Square in motion. Gravik placed multiple bombs throughout the square, and ordered Brogan, along with a few other Skrulls, to carry empty backpacks that were used to distract Fury. After Fury realized he had been tricked, Gravik pressed a button that set off the bombs. He then shapeshifted into Nick Fury and shot Maria Hill, who died of her injuries. He then left with G'iah.
The bombing had major effects around the world, with many nations, such as the United Kingdom, condemning the attack. The bombing also heightened tensions between Russia and the United States, as it was designed to do.
After the bombing, he drove with G'iah to a meeting with the Skrull Council, amusingly telling her how he wanted to see how the council would react to the bombings. At the building, the guard in front of the door would not give her access due to her not being a member of the council. Gravik then gave her his gun and told her to shoot the guard in the head if he did not come out in an hour.
After sitting down, a Skrull who impersonated a human named Shirley Sagar told him the reason for the meeting was to determine Gravik's punishment for his role in the bombings and for endangering the Skrull population on Earth as a result. Gravik then reminded them how Nick Fury had promised them a new home but failed to do so. Gravik then told them that he would take over Earth, and further assured them by saying humans were eventually going to destroy themselves, and that the Skrulls were only making their fate happen more quickly. Gravik and G'iah then returned to New Skrullos, where they were met with applause. Gravik then found Pagon and told him to continue research on the Harvest, though Pagon told him all of the locations that Gravik recommended where it might be had been empty. He was then greeted by a Skrull impersonating MI6 Director Derrik Weatherby who told him that Brogan was being held at a Russian security facility. Later, Gravik found G'iah at a computer and asked what she was doing. She replied that she was checking on Beto's progress. Suspicious, he asked her to join a mission to rescue Brogan.
Aside from G'iah, Gravik was assisted by Pagon and Beto in their rescue attempt. They drove to the site where Brogan was being kept, which was located inside of a butcher's shop. Inside, they saw Russian guards by the doors that held Brogan and began shooting at them. They were able to enter the room holding Brogan and began to assist him, as he was weakened. Before leaving, Gravik asked Brogan what he had revealed to his captors, though Brogan said he had revealed nothing.
As they were driving back to the safe house, they found it surrounded. Gravik believed that Brogan had revealed the location and ordered Pagon to take him outside and handed him a gun. The two then walked a few feet into the woods, where Pagon shot him, leaving him for dead.
Back in New Skrullos, Gravik informed the Skrull Council of his plan to have Beto, Pagon, and another Skrull named Zirksu infiltrate the United Kingdom's Royal Navy in order to shoot down a plane with multiple United Nations members in it to spark a war. He, along with the council, walked into the room containing the Skrull Power Replicator and told them he had found a way to give Skrulls enhanced abilities, which he named Super-Skrulls. Gravik then turned on the machine and turned himself into one.
Gravik soon began to suspect G'iah as being the mole who revealed the location of the safe house, as Brogan did not know it. G'iah retorted by saying that he must have guessed while he was being tortured. Gravik then told G'iah that they would be leaving for somewhere the next morning.
The following morning, the two flew to England, where Gravik had a meeting with Talos at the National Portrait Gallery, which G'iah drove him to.
Inside the building, Gravik and Talos talked about a painting. Soon after, the two sat down in a cafe. Talos tried to convince him to stop killing humans, though Gravik responded by mocking him by saying G'iah was in New Skrullos. This caused Talos to attack him, though as soon as he did, the other people in the cafe revealed themselves to be Skrulls, and soon changed back to their human disguises. Talos then threatened him by saying he would reveal the Skrulls to the public, though Gravik said that would cause the extinction of their race and again mocked Talos about G'iah, which caused him to stab a knife into Gravik's hand. Still, he was able to recover due to being turned into a Super-Skrull.
Gravik's plan to shoot down a United Nations plane was foiled, and he was soon informed that G'iah was the one who sabotaged the plan. After doing so, G'iah attempted to flee New Skrullos, though she was caught by Gravik in his car. G'iah attempted to make an excuse as to why she was leaving, though Gravik did not believe her. He then ordered her to turn around so he could shoot her, though she declined. He then shot her and drove away.
Later, Pagon noticed G'iah's absence and asked Gravik about it. Gravik told him she was the mole and that he had killed her.
Gravik soon developed a plan to assassinate Ritson, who was the President of the United States. Gravik and his fellow Skrulls would pretend to be Russians, in order to start a war between the two countries that would certainly end the human race.
Gravik watched from a helicopter as Ritson was being driven through the English countryside on his way to peace talks with Russia. Gravik soon ordered a missile to be fired at the motorcade. The Skrulls then landed from the helicopter and began firing at the Secret Service while trying to find Ritson. Gravik was soon told by Pagon that Talos and Nick Fury had arrived. Seeing that Talos was trying to locate Ritson, he ordered Pagon to stop him. He then saw that Talos had succeeded in finding Ritson, so he shapeshifted himself into a Secret Service agent. Gravik tried to convince Fury to put Ritson into his car, but he refused. Still shapeshifted, he went over to assist Talos and killed him in front of Fury, He was then shot by Fury, though he suffered no wound due to him being transformed into a Super-Skrull. He then left with Pagon.
After returning to New Skrullos, Gravik ordered a meeting with his operatives. During the meeting, Gravik expressed frustration that they had failed to kill Ritson. He then told Pagon that their war with Earth would have already begun if Pagon had found the Harvest. This angered Pagon, who responded by saying that he wanted Nick Fury alive, as he had multiple chances to kill him during the attack, though Gravik responded by saying that Fury was the only one who knew where the Harvest was located. Pagon then questioned Gravik's leadership skills. Furious, Gravik outstretched his hand in a way similar to Groot, and punched a hole through Pagon's chest, killing him. He then told the Skrull Resistance to kill Varra, who was impersonating Priscilla Fury, as she had failed to kill Nick Fury, Gravik then called Raava, who was impersonating James Rhodes and told him to keep Ritson alive in the hospital and to tell him that Russia and the Skrulls were working together. After some confusion by Raava, Gravik told him doing so would help get what he wanted, as Fury wanted to prevent World War III along with preventing innocent Skrulls from dying. Gravik then came down from the stairway he was on and saw Beto, who was visibly shaken. Gravik assured him that Pagon was a traitor and that no harm would come to him.
Soon after, Raava called Gravik and told him Ritson was out of heart surgery, and promised he would tell Gravik once Ritson ordered a strike against New Skrullos. He then walked through a door, where he was met by Skrulls upset about Pagon's death, and who opposed Gravik. They stuffed a plastic bag over his head as a way to suffocate him, though he was able to briefly escape. More attackers came upon him, who shoved him down on a table and began beating him. Blazing with anger, he was able to find some strength and overcome his attackers. A Skrull then attempted to stab him with a knife, though Gravik turned the knife back at him, killing him. He then saw Beto fleeing and chased him down. He captured him outside, where Gravik held a knife to his throat and slew him. He then issued a warning to the onlooking Skrulls and told them that they would wind up dead if they challenged his authority.
Shortly after the attack on him, he called Fury and told him to deliver him the Harvest, saying that he would cease his attack if he obtained it. Confused, Fury asked him what attack he was referring to, and Gravik replied by saying the United States' attack on New Skrullos.
After obtaining the Harvest, Fury went to New Skrullos, though he was weakened due to the radiation in the air. After a coughing fit, Fury attempted to consume an iodide pill, though he struggled, and the bottle and pills fell to the floor, where Gravik crushed them with his shoe. He then mocked Fury, and offered him a drink for his last stand, as Gravik called it. After a brief conversation, Gravik mentioned that the human he was pretending to be was the first human that he killed, under orders from Fury, and criticized him for having him kill. He then blamed Fury for his actions and said he would kill Fury and the human race. After a bitter conversation, Fury gave him the Harvest as a way to make up for his broken promises and told him to leave Earth and invade a different planet. After verifying that he had the real Harvest, Gravik turned on the Skrull Power Replicator with Fury inside, and he was granted the powers of every being who shed blood at the Battle of Earth.
After Gravik admired his new appearance, he punched Fury to the ground. He then tried to punch him again, though Fury caught his fist, and then punched him through the wall. Fury then walked through the hole, though it was then revealed that G'iah, who had not died of her gunshot wound due to also being a Super-Skrull, had been disguised as Fury the entire time.
G'iah charged at Gravik, and in response, he threw a nearby car at her. She was able to dodge it, and then Gravik began to attack her. The two began to fight even more, using their newfound ice and concrete abilities. G'iah then used Captain Marvel's ability to fly, and the two began fighting again in the sky, and they soon fell back down to Earth. After punching and choking Gravik, he began to compare her to Talos, though she then blasted a hole through his chest, killing him, as well as avenging the deaths of G'iah's parents and Maria Hill's as well of the rest of humanity and the good Skrulls who were killed.
Personality[]
Ever since Gravik was a child, he exhibited a strong willingness to survive as he was able to pilot a ship on his own to escape the Kree after his parents were killed. He looked up to Nick Fury for promising to help the Skrulls find a new home, but after decades has past and Fury failed to make good on his promise, Gravik sought revenge and became determined to eradicate humanity.
Gravik was a sociopath who had no problem killing innocent Humans and Skrulls just to get what he wanted and cause a lot of trouble. He even murdered his most trusted confidant Pagon in cold-blood for questioning his leadership.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Skrull Physiology: As a Skrull, Gravik possesses innate superhuman powers.
- Superhuman Strength: Being a Skrull, Gravik innately possesses considerable superhuman strength.
- Energy Manipulation: After being enhanced by Captain Marvel's DNA, Gravik gained the ability manipulate cosmic energy for a variety of effects. These powers manifest as a glowing aura.
- Telekinesis: Using his enhancement from Ebony Maw's DNA, Gravik can telekinetically lift blocks of concrete while fighting G'iah.
- Flight: Gravik can fly using a cosmic energy aura.
- Shapeshifting: Like the rest of his race, Gravik is capable of shapeshifting. Before his bombing in Russia, Gravik took on several appearances. He also took the appearance of Nick Fury to kill Maria Hill. Gravik's most prominent appearance is that of the first person that he killed, on Fury’s orders.
- Longevity: Gravik has the extended lifespan of a Skrull compared to that of a human. As noted by Varra, although he appeared to be an adolescent in 1997, it was only by human standards and was in fact much older.
- Vocal Replication: Gravik is able to accurately replicate the voice of whoever he shapeshifts into.
- Memory Replication: Gravik is able to access the memories of whoever he shapeshifts into.
- Radiation Immunity: As noted by Maria Hill, Skrulls are immune to harmful effects of radiation, thus, Gravik and members of the Skrull Resistance can set up their base in an abandoned nuclear facility and live there unharmed.
- Artificially Enhanced Physiology: Using the Super Skrull Machine, Gravik enhanced himself with additional superhuman powers obtained from a few scattered DNA samples to aid him in combat, also becoming a member of a Skrull subspecies, Super-Skrulls. Later, Gravik gained even more powers derived from the DNA of the Avengers and other combatants of the Battle of Earth that were combined in the Harvest, wich he used it on himself and, unknowingly, on G'iah disguised as Nick Fury.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: Using his Extremis enhancement, Gravik was able to instantly heal from a wound on the hand inflicted on him by Talos with a kitchen knife, even when his hand was torn apart when he pulled his hand out directly from the knife impaled on his hand. Gravik was also able to heal within seconds when an enraged Nick Fury shot him in the face after Gravik killed Talos during the ambush on President Ritson. This regenerative healing factor has its limitations though, as Gravik cannot heal from a large hole in his stomach due to G'iah’s energy blasts which vaporized vital gastrointestinal organs, and eventually succumbed to this killing blow.
- Limb Extension: Much like Groot, Gravik can extend his limbs at will. During the Skrull Resistance's ambush on President Ritson, Gravik extended his limbs to grab an American soldier from meters in front of him and killed him. Gravik also used this ability to punch a hole in Pagon's chest after the latter started to lose trust.
- Physical Augmentation: Gravik's strength was greatly amplified from a DNA sample of Cull Obsidian, overpowering several Skrulls who turned against him. Later, he gained the DNA of Abomination, Drax the Destroyer, Hulk, Korg and Thanos from the Harvest.

The only way we can counter that and claim this planet as our home is to become super ourselves. Now, we no longer just change faces. We change powers. We're gonna be uniquely programmed weapons of mass destruction. All of us. Super Skrulls. Humans will be at all-out war with each other within the week. But this man... This man, Fury, he had a wife. And he had children. Yeah, all right, maybe he was a bit misguided. But I killed him because of you. I killed him and I killed so many more. And everyone I killed took a little piece out of my heart. | „ |
| ~ Gravik telling "Nick Fury" about where he got his human disguise from and justifying his kills as following orders. |

You put us out to work for you and when you were done with us, you threw us away. So, first, I'm gonna kill you. And then I'm gonna take a FLAMETHROWER TO HUMANITY! And just so I am absolutely clear about this, Fury... You look at me. Look at me! You did this. Trivia[]
- Gravik is a completely original character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has no comic counterpart, not based on any comic character. In the original "Secret Invasion" storyline which the Disney+ miniseries is based on, the main villain was Queen Veranke instead, while Gravik was his own character.
- However, he became a Super Skrull, gaining the abilities of Groot, Extremis, Black Order, Frost Beast, which is different than the comics Super Skrull Kl'rt from Marvel Comics since he has the abilities of the Fantastic Four.
- However, the power sources listed above are likely meant to represent the powers of the Fantastic Four with the powers being similar (Extremis for Human Torch, Groot for Mister Fantastic, Cull Obsidian for Thing, and Frost Beast for Invisible Woman).
- Later, he gained the powers of the Avengers, Ghost, Abomination and a few other enhanced individuals, differientiating him from Kl'rt the Super-Skrull.
- Gravik is very likely to be a mix of Queen Veranke, represented with the former's position as the leader of the Skrulls, and Kl'rt, represented with the Super-Skrull engineering.
- However, he became a Super Skrull, gaining the abilities of Groot, Extremis, Black Order, Frost Beast, which is different than the comics Super Skrull Kl'rt from Marvel Comics since he has the abilities of the Fantastic Four.
- Gravik's takeover plot is meant to serve as an allegory to real-life historical events that saw displaced groups become divided, like what happens to Gravik's faction with Talos', and reach a point in which their patience and diplomacy finally run out. Ben Mendelsohn compared Gravik's plans for his own species as a Skrull parallel to the Cold War.
- Ironically, the Cold War was an unarmed conflict led by the United States of America and the Soviet Union, from which Russia was part of, and Russia is where where Gravik's hideout is located.
