The Gray Family are major antagonists of the video game, Red Dead Redemption 2, mainly serving as one of the 2 main antagonists of the 3rd chapter. They are a wealthy family of plantation owners who would basically run the town of Rhodes, had it not be for the Braithwaite Family.
History
Origins
The family was a group of Scottish immigrants who moved to North America after things got rough. One member of the family named Douglas stole gold from his family and framed the braithwaites for it. The Braithwaites also believed that the Grays were the ones stealing their gold (they were half right, Douglas also stole from them). The two families went to war afterward and both became damaged after slavery was aborted. Despite this, The Grays still held a lot of power in Rhodes, alongside the Braithwaites.
Events in Red Dead Redemption 2
After settling in at Rhodes, The Van der Linde gang encounter Leigh Gray, the town’s sheriff, and help him catch escaped convicts. Because of this, the gang is treated nicely by the grays and are decreed as volunteer deputies.
The Grays also send the gang out to sabotage the Braithwaites, mainly by stealing from them. Arthur Morgan meets a member of the family named Beau, who is madly in love with a Braithwaite girl named Penelope. Arthur assists in their secret love and eventually help them run away together.
Dutch van der Linde secretly starts working with the Braithwaites and sabotaging the Grays to ensure the gang’s protection, but the Grays learn of this and start plotting to kill off the gang. Leigh leads Arthur, Micah, Bill Williamson, and Sean over to Rhodes and ambushes them with cops and other Grays. Sean ends up up dead and the gang kills Leigh. The family isn’t showed again, though it is implied from Tavish (the main patriarch of the family)’s suicide that the family started going through hardships. The Grays also loose control over Rhodes after a new sheriff is elected.
