I'm being chased by someone. He is like belonging an organization. There's a little clothing store there, and the old, retired master of the store covers for me. However, I will continue to be chased by my enemy.
~ The passage of dream diary possibly based on Gray Man from Spday01f I'm chased. (I'm being chased.) in Text Dreams

Gray Man is one of the major characters in LSD: Dream Emulator. His background and detailed settings are unclear in the game, but he is considered the only antagonist in the game based on his activities and some suggestion.

Since his identity is completely unknown, various theories have been put forward by fans. For example, it has that he has some connection to the Violence City and is also related to the protagonist's traumas. However, the complete originator, including appearance, is seemed to be Hatman, who appears in dreams and drug-induced hallucinations.

Apparence[]

He is wearing gray coat covering most of his body, as well as a gray hat and gray pants. No face exists on his head, and his entire body is completely gray like a shadow. His appearance is consistent with that of Hatman's typical one, strongly suggesting that he is same to Hatman.

Biography[]

Gray Man appears only in the even-numbered days (Type B days) after starting the game, appearing before the protagonist and approaching the protagonist as he walks slowly. When the protagonist gets closer than a certain distance to him, the protagonist's sight is glowing white and he disappears from the protagonist's presence, while at the same time delete the Flashback data which remembers impressive dreams automatically, that is protagonist's every memory of impressive dreams.

He is also particularly likely to appear when the dream is located downer, that is when the protagonist is frustrated and feeling unpleasant. Because of these conditions, he is considered an antagonist in term that he interferes with the protagonist's preference for impressive dreams. Additionary, he appears in Flashback data dreams when the conditions are right.

In this way, what he is so characteristic in the game, and what he is more aware of the protagonist than any other character and characteristically acts, has raised the argument that he may be some fundamental concepts in the game.

In the relation to the Sexual Texture, one of the textures in the game, the theory that he is a nightmare representating his sexual or violent behavior toward the protagonist in the real world has rised. However, on the other hand, in the relation to the facts that the ending video of the game is based on an anecdote of Hatsuyume's good luck dream and that figure is similar to Hatman, raise the theory that the Gray Man is a simple symbol of a nightmare.

Trivia[]

  • Gray Man shares similarity with UBOA from Yume Nikki and Mystery Man in Undertale.
  • In title, "LSD" is abbreviation of "Lovely Sweet Dream". Although the name is seemed to cross with LSD, a type of drugs, it actually represents a dream diary kept by one of the staff members on the development team, and some passages from it appear as Text Dreams.
    • Based on this fact, there is a theory that the protagonist of this game keeps a dream diary and tries to dream dreams that satisfy him, in which case, again, the existence of Gray Man, who erases dreams, is very inconvenient and hostile exestance.
  • In a demo movie of the LSD: Dream Emulator released in 1997, a prototype Gray Man-like entity appeared, who ran from a distance to what appeared to be Happy Town, cut down the protagonist, and linked him directly to Violence City. In the actual game, this character exists as the Murderer in Violence City with a partially modified skin.
