The Great Demon King is the figurehead of the Yokai and the secondary antagonist of Choujin Bibyun. He acts as a body double for Gulver and leads the Youkai as Great Demon King Gulver, while receiving orders from the true Gulver in secret.
He is voiced by Ryusuke Shiomi, who previously voiced Suiko in episode 2 of the same series.
Biography[]
The Great Demon King served as the public leader of the Youkai and was initially believed by the Choujins to be the "Great Demon King Gulver". He initially exerted little influence over the Yokai, who for the most part operated independently, although the name "Great Demon King Gulver" was mentioned by several Yokai, including Shindo & Birin, who greatly feared him. He first revealed himself after the Choujins defeated Nekomata and presented himself as the Great Demon King Gulver.
The Great Demon King sent the Yokai Nobusuma to kidnap children and bring them to the Youkai Castle, so he could extract their souls. This led to the Choujins infiltrating the Youkai Castle to rescue the captive children. The Great Demon King confronted them alongside Nobusuma, and it was at this point when the true Gulver revealed himself and began directly overseeing Youkai attacks.
Although Shindo & Birin were trying to help the Choujins against the Youkai Army, the Great Demon King and Gulver intimidated them into firing arrows at the Choujins. When the Choujins discovered them and they tried to defect for real, the Great Demon King executed Shindo with his staff. He was defeated soon after by the Choujins, but was quickly revived by Gulver, who gave him his golden cloak to make him even stronger.
