The Great One, also known as the Tree, is a major antagonist in the 2020 Roblox game Regretevator. It also serves as the main antagonist of the 2024 story The Cleave.
Once the guardian of the dreams of many, and creator of life, the Great One would go on to create the Dreamer, who would soon learn and grow her own abilities from its teachings. However, seeing its lesser creation grow in power and confidence caused it to corrupt, eventually turning the Dreamer into Folly.
Appearance[]
The Great One initially appeared as a gigantic white tree with red leaves and eyes all over itself. Upon giving into hatred and jealousy, however, it sports a black gradient at the top, and its leaves have disappeared altogether. According to The Cleave, its roots became corrupted by malice.
Its true form takes on a monstrous appearance. It sports a red right eye with a black pupil, small swirls on its skull-like head, long horns that jut upwards, and fur-like spikes on the side of its head, making it resemble a demonic version of the Dreamer's mask. Several small withered trees with eyes on them sprouted from its back, and it had a malnourished-looking torso with eyes in the middle, an open ribcage, and long, large arms with three clawed fingers at the end. Said claws even have a strange pattern on them. Its lower half has wide legs with larger (and more visible) eyes on them, and near the top of the lower half and the bottom of its malnourished-looking torso, a strange red liquid was flowing out of it, with eyes being seen within.
After successfully linking the Dreamer and itself together, the Great One looks the same as it did after succumbing to jealousy, except that its body now sports a large, red claw mark after being killed by its own creation.
Personality[]
Originally, the Great One was a kind, compassionate individual who guarded the dreams of others and created life from its bark. However, that would soon change for the worst once it began succumbing to jealousy, leaving it to grow envious of the Dreamer. It would soon take up a manipulative personality, tricking the Dreamer by promising her a "final teaching" involving true freedom before taking over her body. Its avatar also seems to sport a much more ferocious personality, demonstrated as it scratches the Dreamer to complete the process of linking her with itself.
History[]
The Great One was a large tree that guarded the dreams of many in its snowy plains, and acted as the very core of hope in humanity. A great lake surrounded and fed its roots, keeping it alive. Then, the Great One goes on to create a new being to teach and grow it, as well as to connect itself to said creation eternally. This would soon lead to the Dreamer, who, through its teachings, developed her powers and began creating life of her own.
This, however, would get the Great One jealous, unable to comprehend how its own lesser creation could be so powerful and confident in her own abilities. As the Great One succumbed to its crimson malice, it called out to the Dreamer and promised her true freedom as a "final teaching". With her eagerly accepting it, the Great One's corrupted roots would stab her eye, causing it to bleed. From this blood, its true form would form and scratch the Dreamer. Afterwards, Folly would kill the Great One in retaliation.
In the game proper, the Great One's corpse can be seen on the Eternal Limbo floor.

- One bit of dialogue between Folly and Mozelle implies that the title of "God of Dreams" is a taken one that Folly cannot aspire to obtain. Considering Folly's silence after the name is mentioned, as well as Folly's original name being "the Dreamer", it's possible that the God of Dreams is another name for the Great One.
