The Great Sage is a minor antagonist of the Netflix live-action tv series The Last Airbender, serving as the minor antagonist of the Episodes 6 and 8.
He was the leader of the Fire Nation Fire Sages on Crescent Island. His role remains the same as his original animated counterpart. This individual is a highly treacherous, egotistical and heinous man, because despite his predecessors worshipped and were loyal to Avatar Roku, but Great Sage remained loyal to Fire Lord Ozai, not to the Avatar, during the Hundred Year War. He also proved highly murderous and vengeful, as was shown when he murdered Shyu for betraying him and the Fire Nation.
He was portrayed by François Chau.
Biography[]
Little is known about the Great Sage. This individual became the leader of the Fire Sages and served Fire Lord Ozai. The Great Sage once helped Zhao find information about the Moon Spirit before the evil commander invaded Northern Water Tribe.
When young avatar Aang traveled to the Crescent Island Fire Temple in order to contact Avatar Roku, the boy met and encountered the Sage, while believing that the priests remained loyal to Roku and would help him. The Great Sage revealed to Aang that the priests no longer worship Roku, but pledged their loyalty only to Ozai himself. The traitorous priest and his men attacked Aang, but Aang managed to escape. The Great Sage later encountered Sage Shyu, who protected Aang from them and helped the young avatar escape. The Treacherous priest killed Shyu for this betrayal. The Great Sage was later paralyzed by Nyla when June reached the temple.
It's unknown what happened to the Great Sage afterwards.
