Greebo is a minor antagonist in the Discworld franchise, written by Terry Pratchett. He is the pet cat of Nanny Ogg.
Personality / Appearance[]
Greebo is a foul-tempered grey tomcat covered in scars and an eyepatch, has retractable claws and maintains a slitted left eye. He still retains feline behaviour in this human form such as the inability to work door handles and using his own saliva to clean himself.
As a human, he is similar in appearance to Euron Greyjoy from A Song of Ice and Fire or the Cat from Red Dwarf: looking like a 'beautiful, brainless bully' dressed as a pirate, radiating an aura of raw sex that can be felt several rooms away, and of a megawatt magnitude in energy.
He only acts polite towards Nanny, the Fool/Verence II, Mrs Pleasant, and Walter Plinge, largely because they are willing to feed or entertain him.
In the course of the book series, Greebo has killed two vampire bats, eating one and killing the other after it used him as a pillow. In Discworld, vampires can typically only be killed by special equipment, fire, or dismemberment.
Nanny Ogg once said that Greebo was a "fiend from hell", implying that Greebo is demonic. In addition to his other qualities, he is pursuing a study in inbreeding with all of the other cats in Lancre that are related to him (which by dint of some effort is all of them, as he is currently every male ancestor for at least 30 generations), which may be involved in the "raw sex" aura he possesses mentioned above. He has also seriously surprised a she-bear (also killed and eaten half of one before) and chased a female wolf up a tree.
Despite his behaviour, Nanny insists against all evidence that Greebo is an innocent kitten.
Summary[]
In Witches Abroad, Greebo is temporarily transformed into a human. He was confused by the differences between human and cat morphology and social relationships, but picked some aspects up quickly.
Greebo is afraid of a few things: the Nac Mac Feegle; Legba (a black cockerel owned by Mrs Gogol), and You (a small white kitten owned by Granny Weatherwax). Their first encounter ended with You burying her claws in Greebo's face and his subsequent retreat. Greebo now hides behind the pots and pans whenever he and You are in the same house.
