The Greeds are one of Seven Deadly Sins themed mini-bosses and major antagonists in The Binding of Isaac. They are reanimated shopkeepers with its noose cut short. They can appear by chance in shops from levels Cave/Catacombs/Flooded Caves/Mines/Ashpit 2 onward.
Sub-Species[]
Shopkeepers[]
The Shopkeepers are the base form of the Greed species, being corpses that can be found in the Shops, Vaults, and the Secret Room. Usually harmless, destroying them often yields items, although on occasion may spawn a Greed.
True Shopkeepers[]
The True Shopkeepers are a slightly more powerful version of Shopkeepers, dropping coins upon being destroyed. Although, True Shopkeepers have a high chance to spawn Super Greeds upon being killed, however.
Keepers[]
The Keepers, also known as "The Head of Greed", is a hostile head that will attempt to kill isaac by hopping towards him, and firing two shots of projectiles. They can be called forth by Super Greeds.
Hangers[]
Hangers are supposedly Keepers that have been reunited with their long-lost bodies. They hang from the ceiling, guarded faithfully by an eternal fly and firing a trio of projectiles at Isaac.
Greed[]
The Greeds mainly attacks by shooting a trio of projectiles and summoning Hoppers/Trites (depending on the game's version) to deal with Isaac. Any shots to Isaac causes him to loose three coins, with only two of these coins being reobtainable. Its "eternal" variant can also have Isaac lose his bombs and keys.
Super Greed[]
An upgraded Greed, the Super Greed can be found in shops or secret rooms if one is unlucky enough to find them. In battle, Super Greed is near identical, but Super Greed fires four projectiles and summons Keepers.
Ultra Greed[]
- Main article: Ultra Greed
Ultra Greed is the final form of the Greed species and is the final boss of Greed Mode.
Trivia[]
- According to Edmund McMillen, all Shopkeepers and the corpse of previous Isaacs who failed to brave the unknown depths below and the Greeds are reanimated versions of them.
- Greeds appear to be one of the few enemy factions in The Binding of Isaac to have anything resembling a civilization, which appears to be an Economic-based dystopia where Greeds could suddenly snap and attack Isaac without provocation.
