The Green Globs are the main antagonists of The New Scooby-Doo Movies episode, "The Haunted Candy Factory". They are a persona adopted by the gold swindler Sterling Smith and his accomplice Mr. Crink to scare away the employees of the Suger Plum Candy Company (where Mr. Crink worked as the factory foreman), in order to hide stolen gold in the company's candy bars and ship them away to Brazil.
Both of them were voiced by the late John Stephenson.
History[]
Sterling Smith and his companion Mr. Crink plot to smuggle stolen gold out of the country. Due to Mr. Crink working as the factory foreman at the Sugar Plum Candy Company it is there they set up their operation. Disguising themselves as the Green Globs they infiltrated the factory and scared away all the employees, except for the factory's new owner Cass Elliot, whom they kidnap and lock in the basement. Thinking they are alone in the factory they begin to use a metal grinder to grind the stolen gold into powder and then smuggle the powder in chocolate candy bars. Unbeknownst to them, Cass Elliot had already called for help from Mystery Inc. who's car had broken down in front of the factory.
Eventually Mystery Inc. find Cass Elliot locked up and help her out. She tells them about how the Green Globs appeared and scared away the employees and kidnapped her. The gang and Cass Elliot hear a strange, creaky sound from somewhere in the factory and decide to go look for its origins. They find Mr. Crink locked in a room and free him, unbeknownst to them he only faked being kidnapped by the Green Globs to lead off suspicion. He tells Cass Elliot he quits and supposedly leaves the factory. Sterling Smith dresses up as another employee called Mr. Franklin who also gets "kidnapped" by the Green Globs to try and scare away Mystery Inc. and Cass Elliot, though that backfired as they only got more concerned with solving the mystery. Desperate, the Green Globs try all sorts of stuff to hinder the gang and Cass from finding out the truth. They chase them around, lock them up in different rooms and even tries to hurt them with the machines in the factory, but to no avail. Fred, Daphne and Velma find the source of the strange noise, it being a metal grinder. In the same room they find sacks with stolen gold coins.
Ultimately Cass Elliot saves Mystery Inc. and picks up the Green Globs with a forklift, drop them in a machine to trap them in giant chocolate marshallow sundaes. Fred hoses them down with water and reveals Mr. Crink and Mr. Franklin. But Velma is suspicious and unmask Mr. Franklin to find Sterling Smith underneath the mask. The Green Globs are taken into custody by the authorities with Mystery Inc. explaining their scheme to the police. In the end Mystery Inc. celebrates over a dinner together with Cass Elliot.
Trivia[]
- The Cotton Candy Glob in Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed is based upon the Green Globs. Although there are two large differences. Notably the Green Globs being two instead of one, and the Green Globs being 'green' and not pink.
