Green Phoenix, also called Blue Phoenix, is a major character of the donghua series Scissor Seven.
He is a member of the Shadow Killers within the Killer League, and Thirteen's master, who orders her to kill Seven and bring back his sword, the Thousand Demon Daggers. It is revealed in Season 4 that he is actually the former prince of the Qingyun Country, who seeks revenge on the Killer League Leader for killing his family.
He is voiced by Jiang Guangtao in Mandarin/Cantonese and Jake Green in English.
Appearance[]
Green Phoenix is a young, handsome man with long white hair and green eyes, under which he wears red eyeliner and uses twin blades. He wears an iron mask on his face's right side and has his hair cover it to hide a severe burn, and long, dark green assassin uniform with green ornaments on his shoulders and chest, and matching long boots. He is also tall and thin.
Personality[]
Appearing to be calm and dignified, Green Phoenix is in truth very ambitious and vengeful. An intelligent man who can manipulate others and ruthlessly kill to achieve his goals, he has secretly planned for years to reach the Leader and kill him to avenge his family. He is even able to set it up to make it look like Seven killed Redtooth before convincing Seven to fight the Leader. It is speculated that he is the smartest of the Shadow Killers.
However, beneath his cold and uncaring demeanor, Green Phoenix does possess a soft heart. For all his denial, he does truly care about Thirteen and will save her life from danger. He also has a tragic past, as he was formerly a happy prince of the Qingyun Country before the Leader ruined his life. All in all, Green Phoenix is a man of grey morality, whose side is unclear but deep down is a good man who merely becomes ruthless due to circumstances beyond his control.
Biography[]
Ten years ago, the Killer League Leader personally led the invasion on the Qingyun Country to take its national treasure, a pendant worn by the emperor. He successfully took it and killed the entire royal family save for the young prince, who he left for death when he burned down the entire palace. Unbeknownst to him however, the prince survived and became Green Phoenix, who is determined to avenge his family at all cost.
At the age of 21, he kills a group of assassins who are the enemies of the Plum Blossom Swordsman. The Swordsman's daughter, Thirteen, determined to defeat all men including her own father, asked Green Phoenix to train her. He initially refused but tested her by letting her follow him and survive the harsh winter on an island he had multiple targets on. After killing them all, he was accepted into the Killer League and took Thirteen as his apprentice.
In his second year in the League, he met Seven, who was personally recruited by the Leader himself, and took an interest in him. He saved Seven from Redtooth and told him about the Thousand Demon Daggers and the demons protecting it. Seven later successfully took the sword for himself.
After Seven suffered amnesia and went missing, Green Phoenix, alongside other members of the League, were tasked to find and kill him. When Stan is attempting to invade Chicken Island, Thirteen uses a Qi technique to broadcast what she sees to Green Phoenix, allowing him to become aware of Seven's survival and order her to kill him. However, it becomes increasingly clear that she can't bring herself to do so, having felt indebted to Seven for protecting her. Green Phoenix tells her that he will repay that debt and saves Seven from Redtooth again to do so. When Seven and Redtooth are about to fight, Green Phoenix gives Seven back his sword and creates a barrier around the two to prevent outsiders. He then kills Redtooth when Seven is about to lose, and convinces Seven to return to Xuanwu to kill the Leader.
After completing the assignment of killing Seven, Green Phoenix returns to the Leader and reveals his true purpose of join the Killer League. The Killer League's Messenger then attacks him in an attempt to make him waste his qi, but he manages to create a barrier around himself and the Leader, preventing her from entering. The Leader taunts him and finally learns of his true identity and reason for wanting to kill him. A fight between the two ensues, but just before Green Phoenix is able to land the killing blow, he exhausts his qi, allowing the Messenger to block his attacks, defending the Leader. Manjusaka then sends a live recording revealing that Thirteen is in grave danger, forcing Green Phoenix to destroy the Messenger and end the fight in a draw.
Later on, Green Phoenix and the Leader meet again and resume their fight. Green Phoenix traps the leader in a prison of qi. Enraged, the Leader then transforms and the two prepare to fight.
