A lot of sh*t in prison can kill you, right?
~ CO Hellman threatening Alex after she refuses to swallow a condom of drugs for him.

Greg Hellman serves as an antagonist in the final two seasons in Orange is the New Black.

He is a correctional officer at Litchfield Penitentiary's maximum security facility (MAX).

He was played by Greg Vrostos.

Personality[]

Hellman is a sociopath with blatant disregard for the emotions of the inmates he guards. He frequently abuses his power and does not respond well to authority above him, such as to his wardens.

Physical appearance[]

Hellman is a tall man of muscular build. He is balding and has a very imposing demeanor.

Biography[]

Background[]

CO Hellman revealed he once had sexual intercourse with his first cousin when trapped in a lift. At some point, he was hired as a guard at the maximum security facility at Litchfield Penitentiary.

Orange is the New Black[]

Hellman is first introduced as one of the guards at MAX. He meets Taystee, who says she wants no trouble with the guards. Hellman provokes her and tells her to speak louder, then beats her for doing so. Hellman is also seen beating Dayanara Diaz for causing Thomas Humphrey's death. He breaks a rib which causes Dayanara's oxycontin dependency.

As a form of punishment for fighting, Hellman chains Gloria Mendoza and Maria Ruiz to the shower, drenching them and forcing them to kiss. He does this until he is completely gratified. When former-inmate Aleida Diaz arrives to visit Dayanara, she becomes enraged when she is taken away. Hellman responds violently to Aleida and almost hits her until CO Rick Hopper intervenes.

Hellman's corruption is shown when shown he is a drug smuggler in the prison via the kitchen. After Daddy jeopardized Hellman's smuggling route, he instead enlists in Carol Denning's help. He is shown to get frustrated after Taystee reveals the abuse she receives from Hellman. He also ignores Galina Reznikov's pleas not to leave her alone with Carol when she assumes Carol will kill her.

He is shown to be bigoted against Daddy's non-binary status after he criticizes her for having a double mastectomy. He continues to abuse Gloria Mendoza after a fight breaks out between her and Creech by forcing Gloria to clean up but not Creech. He later agrees with Madison Murphy to jeopardize Piper Chapman's record to stop her from being released. He concedes in exchange for oral sex. He does so but this is shown not to have much effect as Hopper wants Piper gone to stop her snooping.

Daddy's death causes a bunk inspection. Hellman approaches Alex Vause and asks her to hide the drugs. When she refuses he assaults her and forces a condom of drugs down her throat. He then offers her a cup of coffee and laxatives to retrieve them. Hellman agrees to help Dayanara move her drugs due to the ongoing drug sweeps, hiding them inside the cloaca of the chickens. These are then discovered by Linda Ferguson and Ward. After Ward is fired by Linda, she appoints Hellman the new warden.
