Gregory (The Poor Revolutionist)

Gregory is the main antagonist of the Chick Tract entitled "The Poor Revolutionist".

Biography

Gregory is the leader of a communist revolutionary organization. He is first seen in the tract explaining to Paul, the leader of the unit, that through their overthrow of America's capitalist system a new world order will arise from the ashes.

At 11:25 P.M., the code word "Bedlam" is broadcast to all revolutionary cells, giving the signal to start the revolution. The revolutionists lure police officers into answering phony calls and shot-gun them to death before hunting down and systematically destroying their families. Meanwhile more of the communist troops move in to take over water and power stations. As looting and murder spread, foreign troops allied with Gregory move in to occupy America. Men and women deemed to be corrupt property owners are herded into detention camps. Eventually the government are unable to resist and capitulate to Gregory's demands.

With the communists now in control of the country, mass executions of capitalists and homeowners begin. Those who follow the doctrine of Christianity are hanged at makeshift gallows. While this is underway, Paul and the other leaders are brought to see Gregory. Gregory hypocritically tells them that they cannot be trusted because they betrayed their country and sentences them to death. The tract ends with Paul being executed and going to Hell.

Although Gregory is still in power at the end of the tract, he presumably goes to Hell when he dies due to opposing the Christian doctrine.

Trivia

• Gregory can be seen wearing a clerical collar in one panel, implying him to be a member of the Catholic Church, the main antagonistic force in the Chick Tracts universe.
  • This makes sense, as the Catholic Church have been stated to be behind communism in the chick tracts.
