Grelod the Kind is a minor antagonist in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
She is voiced by Diane Michelle.
Biography[]
Grelod the Kind is the unscrupulous owner of Honorhall, the Orphanage in Riften. She is known for abusing the children both physically and verbally. The children are not the only ones to suffer her cruelty. Her assistant, Constance Michel (a much kinder woman), often gets yelled at by Grelod, especially when she tries to protect the children. The people of Riften are aware of Grelod's cruelty and call her Grelod the "Kind" out of irony.
One day, a boy named Aventus Aretino escaped the orphanage and fled to his home in Windhelm, angering Grelod to the point of giving another orphan additional beatings. There, he conducted the Black Sacrament, a Dark Brotherhood ritual in the hopes of having his hated Matriarch killed. Eventually, he met the Dragonborn and mistook them for a Dark Brotherhood assassin. Aventus asked the Dragonborn to kill Grelod, and the hero accepted the offer.
The Dragonborn found Grelod giving the children more verbal abuse. After she was finished, the Dragonborn entered the room and killed Grelod, much to the happiness of the children.

- After verbally abusing the children in the assassination quest, Grelod then asks the Children, "Now what do you say" The children reply with "We love you, Grelod. Thank you for your kindness." This is a homage to Miss Hannigan, who demands the children in her orphanage say, "We love you, Miss Hannigan".
- Killing Grelod will not place a bounty on the player, since nobody who witnesses the murder will report it. Riften Guards will even say that the children are better off without her, indicating that everyone in Riften hates the cruel woman.
