~ King Grendel to Ursa, Kenji and Torres. |
The "Grendel King", also known as the Warlord Predator, is the overarching antagonist of the 2022 science fiction action film Prey and the main antagonist of the 2025 Hulu science fiction action film Predator: Killer of Killers.
He is the ruthless and sadistic clan leader of an unknown Yautja clan who are responsible for sending his hunters to hunt and test the deadliest warriors on Earth so they can be abducted to Yauja Prime to be put into the gladiator fight for his and his clan men entertainment. Those that survive will have an honor of fighting him in mortal combat.
He is also the mastermind behind the attack on Naru's tribe as he was the one who sent the Feral Predator to hunt on Naru's tribe lands, and later on abducted her to his home planet where Naru is assumedly forced to fight in gladiator fight.
Biography[]
Background[]
The Grendel King is the nicknamed given to him by Viking chieftain Ursa based on the mythical Grendel monster of Norse mythology. His real name is unknown. As a clan leader, he is no doubt a powerful and absolutely deadly hunter with century worth of hunting experience and expertise as shown by his cape which is made of Xenomorph Queen Rib and Tailbones.
He has kidnapped many warriors on Earth as well as other species to serve as gladiators in his colosseum to fight to the death for he and his people entertainment. Those that left standing will have an honor of fighting him.
Prey[]
The Grendel King dispatched the Feral Predator to hunt. After Naru killed the Feral Predator, the Grendel King deemed her worthy to be his gladiator so he ordered her to be abducted.
Predator: Killer of Killers[]
The Grendel King sent three of his hunters to hunt down three warriors of different eras: Viking Chieftain Ursa; Shinobi Kenji and WW2 pilot Torres. After the three warriors managed to take down his hunters, they are all kidnapped and put into cryostasis. When they are awaked, Grendel King greets them in human language and instruct them to kill each other with the one left standing will have an honor to face him.
Torres convinces Ursa and Kenji to make a plan to escape instead of fighting. Irritated, he sends a large beast after the three of them but the beast is killed by Ursa and Kenji. Torres takes advantages to take down a Predator guard and the three of them try to steal a Dropship to fly back to Earth.
The Grendel King pursues them on the dropship but is knocked back by Torres after he fires the ship thruster at him. The Grendel King then uses a hook to stop the ship from flying, forcing Ursa to sacrifice herself to take down the hook so Torres and Kenji can escape. Amused and impressed by the tenacity of the human, The Grendel King then orders the predators to pursue them in a great hunting game.
He is last seen ordering Ursa to be put into cryostasis again with Naru herself is shown to be in one of the cryo pod.
Personality[]
King Grendel is a rather arrogant leader, but also quite respected by his tribe, he seeks to fight a worthy opponent, kidnapping the humans who defeated his hunters believing that they will give him what he seeks, however he shows quite a bit of sadism in his methods, like when he preferred to execute a captive Yautja with an explosive collar to show the humans how it works instead of explaining to them what would happen. It is quite unnecessary since it shows that he knows several of the Earth's languages such as Japanese, English and Nordic, which also shows that he is quite intelligent.
Appearance[]
King Grendel is a huge and corpulent Yautja, even more than several members of his race, King Grendel wore armor made of bones, both what appear to be Xenomorph tails and Yautja bones.
It shares traits with the Feral Predator: fine dreadlocks, dark brown scaly skin, and a flatter head with larger jaws. This is likely due to their belonging to the same tribe from the desert areas of Yautja Prime.

Trivia[]
- He and his entire clan are believed to be bad-blooded Yautja, due to their dishonorable practices, such as executing a captured Yautja with an explosive collar to show humans how it works, and he also uses the skull of another Yautja as a mask.
- His cape is also believed to appear to be made of Xenomorph tails and a queen's ribcage, according to co-director Josh Wassung, fans can interpret this however they want, as they intended the Grendel King to want to design that Predator with a regal elegance mixed with brutality.
