~ Gridlock and Cicada before they engage in a fight
William Lang, also known as Gridlock, was a minor antagonist in season 5 of The Flash, appearing as the main antagonist of "Nora". He was a criminal in Central City with the ability to absorb kinetic energy and the first meta to be killed by the serial killer, Cicada.
He was portrayed by Daniel Cudmore, who also portrayed Bizarro and David Fuglestad/Subjekt-11 in Superman & Lois, Jackhammer in Arrow, Felix in the Twilight films, Grodd and a Minotaur in Legends of Tomorrow, Thak in the Legends of the Hidden Temple, and Colossus in the first X-Men films.
Barry is at CCPD with his daughter, Nora Wet-Allen when he gets an alert about a meta attack by Gridlock in progress and speeds off to stop it. At the scene, Gridlock blasts two police officers guarding a truck carrying money, only to get lightning punched by Barry which temporarily incapacitates the masked assailant. XS arrives to watch her father fight a villain with her own eyes distracting Barry from Gridlock who easily rises back up and begins emitting light blue colored electricity all over his body from the kinetic energy he absorbed when Barry attacked him. With his power levels increased, Gridlock uses his superhuman strength to punch the Flash far away and land in a lake, avoiding capture.
Tracked by Team Flash[]
A story about Gridlock robbing a building and jumping off the roof later appears on the news much to the surprise of Team Flash. They immediately realize that they were unaware of Gridlock's recent activity due to their satellite falling out of orbit the night of DeVoe's Enlightenment making it difficult track Lang's movement, but Cisco is able to hack into his cell phone and pin point his location at Central City Airline.
Emergency Landing[]
Gridlock boards a plane leaving the city with the intent of causing it to fall out of the sky and absorb the residual kinetic energy from the crash to become unstoppable. First he kills one of the passengers and then he blows up both of the plane's engines causing it to slowly descend into Central City allowing Cisco to breach the Flash, Kid Flash, and XS onto it. Upon entering the plane, Barry depowers Gridlock with meta dampening cuffs putting him and is punched by Wally putting the villain out of commission. Barry along with Nora and Wally attempt to rescue the passengers by using their vibrational powers to make the plane tangible and phase through the buildings before it crash lands. Nora initially had trouble concentrating making her unable to phase, but with her dad's encouragement she is able to overcome her fears and save everyone onboard, foiling Gridlock's plan.
Killed by Cicada[]
After being taken into CCPD custody, Gridlock is restrained inside a truck to prevent him from moving his body while being transported to Iron Heights. However, the convoy is suddenly ambushed by Cicada who had been waiting to intercept Lang's transfer in order to kill him. After eliminating the guards that stood between him and his target, Cicada enters the truck and comes face to face with Gridlock who locks on in horror and asks Cicada who he was and what he wanted. Cicada tells Gridlock that he wants all meta-humans to die and proceeds to kill Lang with his lightning shaped dagger, but he is somehow able to break his bonds and ends up fighting Cicada. Unfortunately, Gridlock is rendered powerless by Cicada's blade which has been imbued with dark matter from S.T.A.R. Labs satellite and is killed after being stabbed in the chest by Cicada.
