You dirty rat! You k-k-k... beat my brothers! You'll pay!!
~ The Grim Creeper swearing revenge on Link.
BAH! I'm not going to hold back! I'm going to make you wish you were never born!
~ Grim Creeper preparing to mount Evil Eagle.

The Grim Creeper and the Evil Eagle are major antagonists in the 1993 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and its 2019 remake of the same name.

They are Nightmares that guard Eagle's Tower, taking on the forms of a skeleton and a giant bird. Upon the Grim Creeper's minions being slayed, he swears revenge on Link and uses the Evil Eagle to carry it out.

History[]

Grim-switch

Grim Creeper and his Battle Bats in the remake.

The Grim Creeper first appears as a mini-boss on the third floor of Eagle's Tower, where he plays a flute to command a horde of Battle Bats to attack Link. When Link beats them all, the enraged Grim Creeper swears revenge for killing his "brothers".

Grim Creeper and Evil Eagle awaiting Link at the top of Eagle's Tower in Link's Awakening DX

When Link reaches the top of Eagle's Tower, Grim Creeper taunts him before mounting the Evil Eagle, a massive bird that he uses to attack the hero. Evil Eagle flies overhead until Link hits it too many times, at which point it uses its wings to create a flurry of wind gusts and feathers, which can only be blocked by the Mirror Shield, to knock Link off the tower. When that fails, Evil Eagle then tries to swoop down and grab Link. This cycle repeats until the two are eventually defeated.

My energy… gone… I… lost! But you will be lost too, if the Wind Fish wakes! Same as me… you… are… in… his… dream…
~ Grim Creeper's final words.

As he dies, the Grim Creeper uses his final words to warn Link that if the Wind Fish is awoken, Link himself will vanish along with the rest of Koholint Island, believing the hero to merely be another part of the Wind Fish's dream.
