Grumpy Pants is a supporting character in the Nickelodeon series, Best & Bester. He is the main, and former, antagonist in the two-parter episode, One Better Day, most notably in part 2.
He is voiced by Bill Bailey, who is known for QI and his many stand up comedy shows.
Physical Appearance[]
Grumpy Pants is a light brown pair of trousers with darker brown, flannel-print cuffs. He has skinny white legs with red-pink loafers. His face is at the top of the pants, consisting of a large red-pink nose and pair of lips. He also has round, black glasses.
Personality[]
As his name suggests, Grumpy Pants has a very grouchy demeanor. He acts rude and sarcastic towards everyone, especially his neighbors Best and Bester. He is described as just wanting some “peace and quiet.” Grumpy Pants is shown to be happier whenever he gets what he wants or plans on filing complaints to others.
History[]
In part 1 of One Better Day, after Bester reveals herself and says that the gong and invisibility combo was very unique, Grumpy Pants announces her that everyone says anyone, but it is always her and her brother, Best, causing the accidents.
He then sings "Who's to Blame" to tell some citizens of Bettervale about the examples of Best and Bester's accidents that he deals with and says that the twins are to blame. During the song, Mr. Putt-Putt says that living next to them isn't a bad thing and says that it only happens when he tries employing them, much to the twins' upset. Judge Prudence wants the twins to explain the evidence of the accidents but somehow they won't answer due to the situation that they're stuck with now: finding a perfect body. Later on, the citizens explain the cons of the twins and even Toot says that they won't laugh at his jokes, much to Best's confusion about that everyone laughs at his jokes, but Toots says that that wasn't the point. Judge Prudence stops everyone from barging them, and saying that they're to "blame", and says that she has the solution in able to continue the holiday without the accidents from the twins' accidental-prone behavior, she originally asks them to leave Bettervale for the rest of the day, but then changes her mind of banishing them from Bettervale forever due to Best stepping on his painted egg which upsets him and Farmer.
Which means, during the song, he somehow manipulates some citizens of Bettervale, who took part of the Better Day festival, to confess the "antics" of the twins, thus leading them to their banishment from Judge Prudence. Which then success his goal of getting what he wants; "peace and quiet".
In part 2 however, when he and the rest of the citizens sees Best banging the door of the Existence Machine, wanting to be let in so he can have a body like everyone else, Graffiti asks what Best is trying to do, but Grumpy Pants lies by saying that he is "destroying the Existence Machine again." During which after Bester puts green paint all over herself which actually works of gaining her original body back, and rushes over to see her brother, Grumpy Pants says that they've "seen nothing yet." When Bester helps Best of trying to get themselves in so the machine can choose them a better body, it breaks more, and Grumpy Pants seems to "enjoy" what is happening, which then turns into an argument from the twins figuring out who they're supposed to be, which then saying to each other that they're "overthinking Best" and "hiccup-inducing Bester", Bester says "Even a machine couldn't find the right body for you, the only person that gets you is ME!" The twins then make up for each other and then, somehow, sing to be able to fix the Existence Machine, about who they are and that they're never alone anymore.
His villain defeat is when Judge Prudence was starting to announce in honor of Best and Bester fixing the Existence Machine, he says that Best and Bester broke the machine before, despite they then fixed it later, it then angers Flip Flop who says that he should leave the twins alone, thus her saving them from him, thus Judge Prudence announcing that Best and Bester are welcomed back to Bettervale.
Trivia[]
- He is not fully an "antagonist", since that at the end of One Better Day's second part that he enjoys Best's Blue Whale appearance (which was off-screen). Also, he wasn't a full antagonist in the show until One Better Day.
- There is no proof of the accidents that Best and Bester have caused according to Grumpy Pants, Mr. Putt-Putt and the rest of the citizens of Bettervale in previous episodes, that sometimes they did good things, which possibly proves that Grumpy Pants is a manipulator and a liar.
