The Gryphon is the main antagonist of the Scooby-Doo franchise's fourteenth direct-to-video film Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo. It is based on the namesake mythological creature of both Greek and Egyptian mythology. It is revealed in the end that the Gryphon is not real, but a puppet created and controlled by Marlon Merlin.
Biography[]
Prior to the film's events, the Gryphon was supposed to be the guardian and protector of Merlin Brothers Academy of Magic, the institute that Madelyn Dinkley attends. Seamus O'Flannery, the original owner of O'Flannery Manor, controlled the Gryphon with a magic scepter.
The Gryphon later appeared during the film, first chasing Shaggy Rogers, Scooby-Doo, and Madelyn Dinkely throughout the school garden and back to the school. However, the creature kidnaps Madelyn, who tried to retrieve the magic staff.
Later, the Gryphon attacked the heroes in a nearby tower, but crash lands onto solid ground. It was revealed to be Marlon controlling the creature. Marlon took advantadge of the legend and built the Gryphon operated from a blimp to force his brother Whirlen to close the school and sell the castle to Calvin Curdles. Then he would have enough money to start his own magic act and no longer have his brother take all the credit for his work.
Appearance[]
Just like the mythological creature it is based on, the Gryphon had the body of a lion and the wings and head of an eagle.
