Gundula is a minor antagonist from Heroes of Might and Magic III. She was an ogre battlemage and the adopted daughter of Duke Winston Boragus.

Biography[]

Gundula's past is almost completely unknown, all that is known is that she was an orphan and was adopted and raised by the King of Krewlod, Winston Boragus. When she grew up and found out that she was not her real father, she immediately joined the barbarian military and her desire was to die in an honorable battle, but instead she became a feared commander of Krewlod. After that, however, she got a more serious role when on a smaller island she, Boragus' son Jabarkas and the gnoll Alkin made an alliance to conquer the island and kill their two opponents, Sir Christian and Oris. It is possible that she wanted to be as far away from his stepfather as possible, so she chose to plan to conquer the island, but it did not work because the knight defeated him, but she managed to retreat. Later, however, she returned to the side of the infamous Regnan pirates, as did Jabarkas and other barbarians and determined to take revenge on the knights, but they all suffered a heavy defeat.

After that, Gundula returned to Krewlod and got a more important role when the Festival of Life began. Several houses tried to usurp the throne from Boragus, and Gundula may have seen an opportunity to finally get rid of her stepfather, so she joined the house Telez and was accompanied by the legendary half-human half-genie Yog, as well as Dessa and Saurug. However, they were defeated by the cruel and brutal Kilgor, who, after defeating the other houses, killed Boragus, cut off his head and became the new king of Krewlod. Gundula was probably happy that the person she wanted to be as far away from as possible was finally dead and perhaps out of gratitude she became Kilgor's minion. She was not seen again after the Reckoning, so it is likely that she died and followed her stepfather to death.

Personality[]

What is certain about Gundula is that she did not like her stepfather very much, despite the fact that Boragus raised her and there is no information or evidence that he ever hurt her. She did almost everything to be away from or get rid of him. For example, she wanted to have herself killed in a battle, she wanted to capture an island with the help of the king's son, Jabarkas, and she helped a usurper house against him.

Her relationship with Jabarkas was also interesting, as the two were allies on several occasions, but became enemies at the Festival of Life. However, it is very likely that Gundula liked Kilgor and was loyal to him, since Boragus died thanks to his usurpation.
