HIM is the main antagonist of analog horror series The SMILE Tapes. He is the presumed creator of fungus virus Abaliomundo Risus, better known as The Jester and is the leader of Smilers. There's implications he's one with the fungus virus.
Overview[]
HIM's objective is to unleash the infection globally, wreaking maximum chaos and driving individuals to a "happier place," a metaphor for suicide, presumably among the infected. He is a hostile entity who revels in disorder, delighting in the screams of those caught in the ensuing bloodshed. HIM manifests solely within the infected minds as a feverish hallucination, communicating with them or transmitting messages in Morse code through a radio station.
Personality[]
He is highly manipulative, manipulating an infected person Shaun to go on a killing spree that would eventually spread the infection then Shaun died. He is implied be delusional, mentioning how we can be in a happier place though he also a hypocrite since he mentions how bloodshed and hearing people cry gives him joy, showing that he is also a cold and sadistic monster that's devoid of empathy. He also taunts people how there's no cure for the fungus infection and gleefully admits he kills people, showing how inhumane he is. He is also intelligent and calculating, when he realized a cure for the fungus is about to be created in lab, he had the smilers kill everyone in the lab to stop the cure from being created.
Biography[]
The Smile Tapes Vol 1[]
When some mysterious individual infected Shaun with the fungus, it caused Shaun to have strange dreams about floating in space, being one with the universe until he would see HIM which would cause his dreams to end with the dreams often repeating. As time went on, the infection is getting worse with the fungus forcing Shaun to smile against his will. Shaun mentions how he feels someone is pulling the ties of his mouth up, possibly being HIM doing it. Eventually, Shaun's dog passed away, unknown if HIM had anything do with the dog's death. However, The fungus would fully infected Shaun, causing him to go insane and become a smiler. HIM would appear and manipulate Shaun to "fulfill a quest, a brand new life, in a bitter place". This leads to Shaun grabbing a knife and murder 16 people and injure 10 others. He also wounded one of the police officers, forcing the police to use lethal force to stop Shaun's homicidal rampage. This event is known as the "THE GOMEZ HOMICIDE" with HIM being the one behind it.
The Smile Tapes Vol 2[]
It has been discovered that whenever a smiler dies, fungus would come out of their mouth and into the air to infect other people, this means that when Shaun got killed, all the people standing near him like the police officers, injured people, and anyone else nearby got infected. Meaning HIM not only caused a mass homicide to happen but he also started he an infection outbreak too which led to 8000 people being infected. The outbreak has gotten so bad that national guard has been order on San Diego. Later on, HIM appears, commenting how the chaos is beautiful and enjoys watching people suffering.
The Smile Tapes Vol 3[]
The pandemic would cause further chaos with fire happening on streets, smilers can be heard laughing and victims are heard screaming. It's confirmed that almost 10,000 people died and over 4000 people get sent to the hospital. Later, it cuts to a scientist interviewing an infected person known as Sarah. Sarah's urges to smile are faded and she shows no serious harmful effects besides coughs, the scientist realizes that Sarah is the key for create a cure. Right as soon as things look hopeful, a group of smilers break in the facility to kill the personal and the subjects which included Sarah. Later on, HIM appears, taunting the viewer that there's no cure and he admitted he killed everyone in lab, meaning he either sent the smilers to attack the lab or his consciousness is outright controlling the smilers, either way, he gotten everyone in the lab killed to stop a cure from being made. It later reveled the whole city caught on fire due to how bad the outbreak became. Before the infection could spread any further, a group of mysterious orbs appear in the sky to wipe out the infection. It's unknown what happened to HIM if he went into hiding or if the glowing orbs destroyed him too.
