~ Varys mentioning Haegon Blackfyre and his son. |
Prince Haegon Blackfyre, disputably Haegon I Blackfyre, is a minor character in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. A member of House Blackfyre and the fourth son of its founder Daemon I Blackfyre, Haegon is the heir of his brother Daemon II Blackfyre and is the father of at least two sons, possibly more, with one of them being Daemon III Blackfyre. During the Third Blackfyre Rebellion, he led an invasion of Westeros together with his uncle and supporter, Ser Aegor Rivers but was defeated and he was killed after he had surrendered.
Biography[]
Haegon was born a prince in 190-193 AC as the fourth son of Daemon I Blackfyre and his wife Rohanne of Tyrosh. He is the younger brother of Princes Aegon & Aemon and Daemon, the older brother of Aenys Blackfyre, two other unnamed brothers and several sisters, including Calla Blackfyre.
During the First Blackfyre Rebellion, after his father was slain during the Battle of the Redgrass Field. Haegon and his family went into exile in the Free City of Tyrosh in Essos, alongside his uncle Ser Aegor Rivers, and many of their supporters. During his time in exile, he married an unknown woman and bore two sons, with his eldest son being named Daemon after the latter's late grandfather.
After Daemon II Blackfyre was arrested by Brynden Rivers following a failed conspiracy, he was kept alive in captivity so as to prevent Bittersteel from crowning Haegon. However, Daemon died from an unknown cause, leading Bittersteel to crown Haegon as king and the eventual start of the Third Blackfyre Rebellion.

Haegon meets a dishonorable end.
Though he was supported by both the Golden Company and House Yronwood, who joined for reasons unknown, Haegon was defeated and his invasion ended in failure. After he had surrendered, he was dishonorably killed after he had given up his sword.
Legacy[]
Following Haegon's death, his son Daemon was crowned by Bittersteel as Daemon III Blackfyre. When his uncle, Aenys Blackfyre, tried to peacefully press his claim, he was treacherously killed by Bloodraven, who was aided by the City Watch of King's Landing, causing House Blackfyre and their supporters to harden against House Targaryen. Six years later, Daemon III would follow in his father's footsteps and launched the Fourth Blackfyre Rebellion only to be slain in the end.
Trivia[]
- Haegon is the second character in the ASOIAF series whose name includes an alphabetical letter on the very left of the name "Aegon". The first with this is Archmaester Vaegon (formerly Prince Vaegon Targaryen).
