Heart of thorn, bones of the wild. In life, Forsworn. Rise from death, blood of our blood.
~ Hagravens creating a Forsworn Briarheart.
Hagraven

Hagravens are one of the most dangerous enemies in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. A hybrid of woman and bird, Hagravens are dangerous sorceresses, well-trained in Destruction magic and their claws proving just as deadly in melee combat with their foes. They are allied with The Forsworn, the Reachmen who were forced out of Markarth by Ulfric Stormcloak and his militia, and swore to return.

Description[]

As per their name, Hagravens are women who have become a hybrid of human and bird, with tall, hunched-over appearances, raspy breathing, and also being powerful spellcasters. They also are able to transform male Forsworn into their strongest selves, Forsworn Briarhearts, by replacing their human heart with a Briar Heart, an alchemy ingredient, transforming them into undead, but powerful, melee or magic users. Two Hagravens can be eavesdropped on at Lost Valley Redoubt and heard performing the ritual to create a Forsworn Briarheart in front of the dragon Word Wall there.

Despite their hunched appearances, Hagravens are dangerous foes when enraged. Using long-range Destruction spells and their razor-sharp claws in melee range, they can be a hazard to a low-level Dragonborn, especially if reinforced by Forsworn loyal to them.

Five of them form the Glenmoril Witches, a group who cursed the Companions with lycanthropy, allowing them to become werewolves, but at the cost of, upon death, traveling to realm of Hircine, the Daedric Prince of the hunt, in Oblivion to be part of his hunting grounds.

Another Hagraven, named Melka, proves to be a friendly Hagraven, asking the Dragonborn for help taking back her lair from a rival Hagraven, awarding the Dragonborn a Forsworn Staff named the Eye of Melka in return for helping her.
