Bond doesn't know you're in Bangkok. He's never seem you, but he knows me. That's the problem. (Scaramanga: That's no problem)
~ Hai Fat's last words before being shot by Scaramanga

Hai Fat is a major antagonist in the James Bond film The Man With The Golden Gun. He is the head of Hai Fat Enterprises and the employer of mercenary assassin Francisco Scaramanga. He was portrayed by the late Richard Loo.

Biography

Hai Fat is the multi-millionaire head of Hai Fat Enterprises, a company in which hired assassin Francisco Scaramanga is a junior partnership. He and Scaramanga plan to construct a device capable of ending the world's energy crisis, allowing them to make a monopoly on energy. To that end, Hai Fat employs a scientist named Gibson to build the device on Scaramanga's island; however, Gibson absconds to Britain with the Solex Agitator, a key component of the device, in order to use it to bargain for immunity after discovering he was assisting a wanted mercenary. As a result, Hai Fat has Scaramanga assassinate Gibson, allowing his servant Nick Nack to steal the agitator.

Later in the film, secret agent James Bond, a witness to Gibson's murder, figures out that Hai Fat is responsible for ordering Scaramanga to kill Gibson and breaks into his estate. After running into Hai Fat, Bond claims to be Scaramanga as he assumes the two never met, not realizing that Hai Fat in fact met Scaramanga several times and learned of Bond's identity from him. Hai Fat, playing along with Bond's ruse, invites him to dinner that evening. When Bond arrives, he's attacked by two sumo wrestlers. He fights them off, but Nick Nack attacks him from behind and knocks him unconscious. Hai Fat intercedes just as Nick Nack is about to kill Bond, telling him he doesn't want him killed in his house and ordering them to take Bond to a karate school he owns, where he will be killed.

After being informed by one of his men that Bond managed to escape, Hai Fat decides to flee in order to prevent Bond from killing him. Scaramanga enters as Hai Fat is preparing to leave, and Hai Fat tells him he's trying to escape Bond, and instructs Scaramanga to remain behind and await instructions. Scaramanga begins assembling his infamous Golden Gun as Hai Fat demands that he stop meddling in his business. Hai Fat then explains that the problem is that Bond doesn't know Scaramanga is in Bangkok (not realizing that Bond is there is to kill Scaramanga) but he knows him, meaning he can go after him. Scaramanga, now pointing his gun at Hai Fat, remarks that "That's no problem" before shooting the shocked Hai Fat in the chest, killing him. Scaramanga then orders one of Hai Fat's men to place his body in a mausoleum on the grounds of the estate.
