Hakugin is the main antagonist and final boss of the mobile game Mushihime-sama BUG PANIC!.
Appearance[]
In its larva form, Hakugin is a large orange grub with spikes on its body. It has red eyes and mandibles and six small appendages. In its pupa form, Hakugin is protected by a gray shell with a yellow core. Its method of transportation is three spike-like feet. Three red dots decorate its underside. In its imago form, Hakugin resembles a large silver stag beetle with red eyes, green wings, and blue orbs in its arms and back legs that can fire projectiles.
Biography[]
Hakugin is the Koujuu familiar of Sora from Amagase Village. Prior to the game's events, Hakugin was kidnapped along with other Koujuu by Queen Larsa as samples to study during her insanity outbreak following the death of her son Aki. She would torture it to learn more about the Koujuu and placed it and other Koujuu through harsh tests and experiments to train an army of Koujuu to claim revenge on Reco. During this, Hakugin witnessed Larsa kill multiple Koujuu that failed her expectations in front of it, causing it to develop a hatred for humanity.
Following Larsa's death, peace returns to the land. However, from the ruins of Larsa's palace, Hakugin's reincarnated egg still remains intact, using the temporary peace to its advantage. Through soundwaves, Hakugin lured Koujuu across the region towards the palace to enact its revenge on humanity, believing all humans to be evil savages. This included the Koujuu of Shinju Forest, who all flew off, confusing both Reco and Palm. The only exception was Kiniro, Reco's golden Koujuu familiar, who fell ill as he resisted Hakugin's calls. Without Kiniro, Reco and Palm ventured towards Larsa's palace to stop the menace, battling multiple Koujuu along the way, all brainwashed by Hakugin.
Once the two finally reach Larsa's palace, they encounter Sora trying to reason with Hakugin and beckons it to return to the mountains with her. Hakugin refuses, prompting Sora to try to calm it by playing her flute. This angers Hakugin enough to burst from its egg and attack her. Fortunately, Reco and Palm arrive in time to confront Hakugin. Reco chooses to battle Hakugin and orders Palm to protect Sora. During battle, Hakugin rapidly metamorphoses from its larva to imago form.
Once Reco finally defeats him in battle, Hakugin immediately gets back up. But Sora also wakes up from falling unconscious and plays her flute again. But due to the burst seeds used by Reco, Hakugin successfully manages to calm down and releases its control on the Koujuu. Hakugin apologizes for going so far in its plot to destroy humanity. Palm also apologizes for the horrible things his mother did to Hakugin, to which Hakugin admits it was good to meet him. After saying their goodbyes, Sora and Hakugin return to the Tsukiyo Peaks.
