Biography[]
Having become a member of the Green Lantern Corps for years, Hal Jordan was ranked as the greatest of all Green Lanterns. For an unknown time, Hal also became best friends with Green Arrow, and was a member of the Justice League of America. During the peace-treaty between Rann and Thanagar, Hal was overseeing an experiment with the Zeta Beam coordinated by Sardath. But when the experiment was sabotaged by Sinestro, Hal attempted to stop the out-of-control beam, but failed, and was presumably killed by the beam, which teleported Thanagar next to Rann.
Surviving the explosion, Hal was confronted by Sinestro, but sent his Power Ring to Oa so that Sinestro would not have it. Instead of killing him, Sinestro infected Hal with an alien parasite called the "Parallax entity". Initially meant to bend Hal to Sinestro's will, the parasite instead empowered him to higher levels. After accompanying Sinestro and his Corps on attacking Oa, and killing every Green Lantern and Guardian of the Universe (except Ganthet, who fled with Hal’s ring), Jordan took the rings of the dead Lanterns, and made Sinestro submit to him, and become his acolyte.
Sinestro would later attempt to trick a crew consisting of Hal’s successor John Stewart, Rannian hero Adam Strange, Thanagarian warrior Shayera Hol, and Green Arrow into freeing Hal from a prison. After freeing him, they went to Rann in order to convince Sardath to not use the Zeta Beam on Thanagar, but not before Hal killed him. Hal then revealed himself as the true mastermind behind the conflict between Rann and Thanagar, explaining how Parallax increased his power. Stewart would engage him in a battle, overpowering him through his willpower, and confiscating the dead Lanterns' rings (save for one). Green Arrow would later reluctantly kill him after the battle.
