Hale and Hardy are the main antagonists of the 2007 South Korean-American animated film Garfield Gets Real, an adaptation of the Garfield franchise. They are a muscular Great Dane and cat duo who plan to become the new newspaper comic stars after they meet Garfield and Odie.
Hale was voiced by Gregg Berger, who also played Ripto in Spyro the Dragon, Commander Octodon in Danger Rangers, General Kalani in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Nemesis T-Type in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Hardy was voiced by Frank Welker.
History[]
After a few days, Garfield ends up in the real world with Odie; without him, his comic is canceled, much to his shock, so Garfield decides to go to where they audition for new comics to get rehired. They see many people fail, and then Hale and Hardy, represented by Mike, get a lot of upvotes (they also seem to be a lot better than Garfield). Garfield however, tries on Odie, and although the council is not very amused by their act, he agrees to take them back if within 24 hours they can return to the comic, with Hale and Hardy looking at them menacingly.
That night, when Garfield and Odie return to the Hotel, Muncie is abandoned by Shecky, a stray cat the duo met when they arrived in the real world. Hale and Hardy secretly follow them, and when they fall asleep, they attack them and tie them up, hanging upside down. Hale then lights a candle, and he and Hardy laugh at them. As they leave, they close the door so hard that the candle falls and creates a fire throughout the building, resulting in the lasagna-loving tabby and his canine companion being endangered in the flames.
However, Garfield, Odie, and Shecky are saved by Jon, Billy Bear, and Randy, who manage to enter and re-enter the comic world thanks to Wally Stegman's invention, the Bonitinator. Garfield returns to being the star of his comic, and Hale and Hardy fail to become the stars. They are now reduced to eating garbage and fighting each other for not succeeding in their aim.
