Nobody leaves here alive!
~ Hangedman as he kidnaps Sophie Richards.
I'll crush your foolish hope underfoot! You two are going down next!
~ Hangedman upon encountering Kate Green and Ryan Taylor.

Type-041, better known as his codename Hangedman or Hanged Man, is a supporting antagonist in the House of the Dead series, serving as a boss zombie monster in the first installment, its 2022 remake, and Scarlet Dawn. He is a bat-like humanoid creature created by Dr. Roy Curien, who serves as an antagonist of the first installment. He was then resurrected by Thornheart during the events of Scarlet Dawn.

He is voiced by Brian Conner in the House of the Dead remake.

Appearance[]

In the original game, he has giant claws and toes sharp enough to kill his victims or at best, severely injure them. He has pair of wings that resembles a bat and red glowing eyes. His head is almost a bird-like. He wears piece of armor around his body for some protections against bullets and a pair of red, scientific goggles.

In Scarlet Dawn, his appearance becomes even more bat-like, as he gains a pair of bat-like ears.

Personality[]

Unlike most other bosses in the series, who were only mindless zombie creatures, Hangedman is capable of communicating with humans. He is also shown to be very intelligent, as he demonstrated by destroying the helicopter that Kate Green and Ryan Taylor are trying to aboard on. He is also capable of expressing joy of killing his victims, whether it is Curien's researchers or the intruders alike.

Biography[]

1998 Curien Mansion incident[]

Dr. Roy Curien created and unleashed his horde of zombies, including Hangedman himself, in slaughtering his own fellow researchers in his mansion. Hangedman kidnapped Sophie Richards, Thomas Rogan's fiancé, and dragged her back into the mansion, which she would later be almost killed by Chariot.

Later, Rogan and G confronted Hangedman on a rooftop, witnessing him dropping two researchers to their deaths. He used his Devilons (small bat-like creatures) in attempt to kill the duo, After they failed, he attempted to ram them off the roof, but was ultimately killed and fall into the courtyard below.

He reappeared in a limestone cavern that housed much of Curien's underground laboratory, before they can reach to Curien, but was defeated again.

2006 Scarecrow Manor incident[]

Thornheart brought back Hangedman and Chariot to life as part of his plan to complete their legacy in a humanity-decimating project called "Noah's Ark".

As agents Kate Green and Ryan Taylor were investigating through Scarecrow Manor while fighting through horde of zombies, they took to the rooftops for a helicopter upon finding it. Hangedman appeared and destroying the chopper and engaging Kate and Ryan in battle. He even went extreme length in setting the roof on fire with a torch, which the duo were able to extinguished it, and eventually plunged to his death ablaze.
